Do you think ackerbond can be severed or broken?

aspoonofsugar:

Hi 🙂 very “what if” ask… do you think that Mikasa will “break” her ackerbond with Eren? If that happens, will she bond with someone else? With who, in your opinion?

Hello anons!

These are different asks, but they ask something similar, so
I am answering them together.

However, before answering I need to make a premise which
will take a while and which you might not enjoy. So, I apologize.

“The so-called
ackerbond is really no different from any other bond.” So well-said!

also worth it to note in hunter exam as gon is being brutally beaten by a trained ninja and the threat of death and even permanent mutilation are worth bearing as long as there is no possibility of him being a disappointment to his idea of his father like. that really is ignored i think in so many analyses of gon is that he idolizes his father to the point of tangible harm to him and his body. ging unintentionally is killing gon by not seeing him….

And people say Gon doesn’t have any sort of self-worth issues.

I mean, he doesn’t have them in the popular sense of being like “Oh, I hate myself! I’m such a disappointment etc.”, but he does seem to have “This is more important than myself” mentality, as if figthing against certain people, winning and protecting others by isolating them from the problem is a much greater cause than caring for his own health and well being.

The York New scene when he and Killua are trapped with Nobunaga comes to mind in particular.

What’s even more interesting is that this type of behavior is actually celebrated in Shounen manga.

The protagonist, so selfless and inherently good, always fights with every pour of his being, ‘till his last breath, despite how much pain it brings and how badly it affects him from a physical or mental standpoint.

Being selfeless and protecting those you love is an admirable thing, but at what point does it stop being about that and it becomes a toxic mentality?

HxH, unlike other Shounen, doesn’t glorify Gon’s destrucitve tendencies and it doesn’t paint them as anything other than destructive. It’s always bloody, so painful it makes you cringe uncounsciously and even heartbreaking.

Another tiny thing that makes me appreciate HxH all the more.

Fuck if this isn’t the most accurate post about Gon ever.

Its amazing that, just after this, everyone is so in awe and even laughs at Gon’s stubbornly refusing to give up.

And yet, this type of behavior should be seen as a big fucking red flag about how dangerous Gon’s mentality is, and abandoning his son and setting up all these obstacle courses that could kill or break him that Ging is deliberately doing is exacerbating these traits.

Is it any wonder Gon-San was born during the Chimera ant arc?

What I feel: I love this character very much because they’ve helped me flex my creative muscle and extend my understanding of what makes a character enjoyable and unique, as well as giving me comfort during rough patches and allowing me to relate to them emotionally

What I say: hgngnhg son

I’d love to hear your thoughts on Near from Death Note! Was he your favorite character or am I misremembering?

He is my fave! It’s been a long time since I watched or read the series, though, so I don’t think I’ll make a full meta on him (sorry!), but in the manga I liked him even more than the anime because he seemed more emotional. But either way, like Light, he was kind of removed from society and didn’t know how to interact with it–Light was good at pretending to be a member of society while also viewing himself as above it, whereas Near really couldn’t even pretend to fit in (like L) exactly because he was just very socially awkward, but Near was okay with that. In that aspect he was a good foil for Light and for L. But I enjoyed him for the same reasons I enjoyed L, and I liked that he finally outsmarted Light (even though I also liked Light as a character), and the money raining scene was a favorite. He uses some pretty existentialist philosophy, which is probably why I like him so much being an existentialist about many things myself. I also found several aspects of his character highly tragic, namely how he was raised in an orphanage for one purpose.

BNHA, thoughts on Himiko and character development. I’ve mentioned that Himiko has mostly zero self-control, and you have that meta on how her and Dabi share that attribute. She’ll need to gain some self-control in order to grow as a character (She’ll still be kinda unfiltered, that’s just part of who she is). I guess my ask is: Do you see canon set-up for Himiko growing some self-control?

That’s a great question!

I don’t know, but I hope so, because I presume Dabi and Shouto will reconcile, and Deku will at least try to save Shigaraki (and likely succeed). Ochaco’s negative foil is Himiko, so if she moves into a certain healthier direction with her love for Deku, it’s possible we’d see Himiko doing likewise if Horikoshi wants to take a shadow approach and integrate the characters with their negative foils.

I will say the moment that gives me the most hope for Himiko is her compassion for Twice. That was beautiful, and so we know that potential is there in her.

Yet more BNHA. I love Camie. Not Fake!Camie, that was creepy AF because it was actually Himiko, who did exactly what she usually does – corner the object of her obsession and shower them in inappropriate (and kinda disturbing) attention, because Himiko honestly has no brakes. I mean when we finally meet the real Camie. She’s nothing but a sweetheart, with this really maternal vibe that’s just so… refreshing??? She brings a feeling that’s normally not present in a shounen fighting manga.

Poor Camie, right?? Now everyone thinks she’s a creeper.

More BNHA ideas. I want to see Izuku confronting the older generations of heroes, especially Gran Torino because he’s VERY black and white. While they react with shock or outrage that he tried to save the villains too, I picture Deku just giving them all a long look, and saying something like “Aren’t the people who need a hero the most, the people who are the most lost?” Like I feel like that kind of sentiment is Deku’s endpoint in therms of ideals.

I would love to see this too, and expect something like this to happen eventually!Â
