I don’t know exactly… it’s definitely complicated! I do still believe (and prefer) Eren to more or less be in charge of his own decisions, not possessed by a monstrous spirit but rather showing that a human capable of wonderful bravery and love is also capable of immense wrongdoing. But I do think the memories are affecting Eren, but it’s not so simple as “Eren is another person now,” like Connie said. That’s an easier way to think of i, but I think it’s a lot more complex than that–humans are capable of monstrosity all on their own.
So, in short: I have no idea, sorry Anon! But I am very curious to see how Isayama will handle this. I’m looking forward to seeing it (well, as much as one can look forward to something that inevitably, as you say, will be painful).
Oooooh! Yeah, there are a lot of possibilities, aren’t there?
I want Gabi to realize that she killed Sasha firstly, and I think she might have when Kaya said Sasha’s name, because I’m sure people were saying Sasha’s name on the ship. They definitely were.
I can see them encountering either Historia (I’m desperate to get more on her, I love her and need her to return to the plot) or Zeke and Levi. Gabi clearly realizes they can’t trust Zeke (and I don’t think they can) but it seems logical there might be a confrontation there, though whether it’s now or we have to wait for it I don’t know. Gabi’s clearly struggling to accept her world blowing apart, but she needs to if she wants to live.
I still hope Gabi and Falco will survive the hell that we all know is coming, but it’s definitely true that the fate of the story and the world rests on them. If they can’t break the cycle, that’s it. But I do think they might be able to. Eren is the one currently digging his heels in deeper and breaking with his knowledge of the world, and he’s cursed with a titan lifespan besides, so I don’t think we need that in Gabi too. Gabi was literally saved from the risk of having to inherent the titan (for now). She and Falco still, while not having clean hands, do not have the curse in their bones condemning them to die. But to live they’re going to have to break away from this sick cycle the world has entrapped them in.
Yupppp. I’m strongly expecting disaster in the future chapters for everyone in the cast, quite possibly culminating in Father getting Yukine. Kazuma and Yato are really the Disaster Duo and whatever they attempt together is not gonna go well.
Sebastian will not eat Ciel’s soul. I refuse to allow it 😛 But really I don’t think he will eat his soul, but I also am not necessarily optimistic about Ciel surviving because I’m a pessimist about character survival. Somehow, someway, I think Ciel will hopefully get away from the contract, and at the very least die knowing that he is loved, that he is not alone, that people care.
When Illumi leaves the Zoldyck manor for a rickety old house occupied by Hisoka, Chrollo Lucilfer, and Chrollo’s group of friends, he expects a hellish semester. However, the more he gets drawn into Hisoka’s schemes, Chrollo’s frustrations with a red-eyed boy in his class, and Machi’s secret, he starts to realize hell might be where he came from, instead. College AU. Hisoillu, Kurokura, & some side ships.
Meta writers have offered nothing but bad takes and ruined the tone of this fandom for the last few months of TG I wish they would stop trying to go and find pity anywhere they can get it.
Dear Mod A:
I don’t want to start drama, but I also don’t want to just ignore this because it’s not a one time thing, it’s a pattern of behavior, and I’m a human too. It’s not fair to make these kind of posts about meta writers and expect them to ignore it. You’re not attacking our writing; this is made to attack people. And it leaves us feeling humiliated.
This response isn’t about TG, so I don’t want to discuss the story itself (I don’t post TG anymore, but I also can’t pretend I didn’t participate in and enjoy the fandom), but instead about
how posts like these affect real people. Whether or
not someone should have shown me this post (because I did not seek these
posts out, and I don’t follow your blog) is not the point: the point is
that it’s not reasonable of you to expect not to get pushback on posts that insult a whole subset of the fandom. These kind of posts went on for months before
the end of the series and apparently haven’t stopped, and honestly, they should. I do
care about how my friends who might still want to discuss TG are treated, and yes, I do care about how I’m treated as well. Maybe I shouldn’t, but I do. Meta writers are people just like
you, and you have a platform that you’ve earned with lots of fun headcanons and fanfics. Using your platform to insult others is not okay. This is not me asking for pity because I don’t want it; I want this kind of vaguing to stop especially since I’m sure the fandom will become more active with the return of the anime and the new live-action movie which I’d personally like to enjoy.
I wrote metas because I loved to talk about the series. My background is in literary criticism and creative writing, so I engage with fandom via meta writing (lit criticism) and fanfiction (creative writing). I did not spend countless hours researching and revising words after words because I hated the series and just wanted to be right. I did it because it was so much fun, because I love Tokyo Ghoul. I was almost never right, except with Mutsuki. Often I was GLAD I was not! And I said as much. Multiple times.
You don’t have to like meta writing as a way of engaging with the fandom, but if you don’t like meta, why do you still talk about it? Or is there a part of you that wanted to be right, too?
For the past year, I have seen many posts on this blog engage with meta primarily through vaguing (and yes, we saw those vagues) and occasional outright insults (like this) with little to no empathy for people who also drew hope from and love the series, but perhaps loved different aspects and drew hope from different themes. The series hit the right notes for you. I’m happy for you. It didn’t for some of us. We’re allowed to be disappointed about that and we’re allowed to discuss why we feel that way just as you are allowed to discuss why you enjoyed it. It’s not simple to extricate yourself from a series you were emotionally invested in for well over a year–emotional attachments to certain themes/characters just don’t go away with a snap. TG will always have saved my life, no matter my opinion on the ending. My opinion is not the “right” one, but neither is yours. There are meta writers who liked the ending, even! And they are entitled to their opinion, and to voicing their opinion, and so are meta writers who didn’t like it.
This blog’s description basically describes it as safe haven for people who love Touka, but I’m a fan of Touka and Touken and that hasn’t been my experience. Touka and Kaneki are an OTP of mine and I love Touka’s character. I wrote several fanfictions for them and many metas your blog even reblogged defending Touka, but I find myself hurt by the way this blog treated anyone who remotely had an issue with how Touka’s character arc went or was triggered by dead kids or didn’t love how their romantic relationship was written. Instead of saying “I disagree,” or accepting someone was triggered by something you were not, there were posts making moral judgements and ableist comments about our intellect. Like here:
This is no less vitriolic than many anti posts I have seen. The vast, vast majority of meta writers (yes, I know there were occasional exceptions, none of which I ever supported) never once argued Touka was a bad character or in any way agreed with antis,
simply saying that they personally weren’t drawn to her or weren’t liking how she was written (I am drawn to her, I love her personality, but I did not like how she was written in :re). Yet many of the posts on this blog conflated critiques of how Touka was written with antis
determined to hate on a female character and threw around the term “misogyny” without actually contemplating whether or not the writer’s view was actually misogynistic. We all misread sometimes, and we all also misspeak, but mocking reading comprehension of all “meta writers” when you are not above misreading yourself is not only unkind but hypocritical.
I’m genuinely sorry to hear that meta writers ruined the fandom for you. I’m also really sorry if I ever contributed to that. That was never my intention. However, vaguing about us personally, about our intellect, about our lives and opinions that had nothing to do with my writing, ruined the fandom for me and for friends of mine. The posts on this blog specifically hurt me, and no one gets to say “no they didn’t!” about that. Likewise, I don’t get to say that meta posts didn’t ruin the fandom for you, but I can say that I made a point to never, ever criticize people and only to discuss ideas/the story. If I ever did mess that up (and it certainly is possible), I am truly, truly sorry. And even if these posts aren’t about me at all (I have no reason to believe they are or aren’t) writing this about my friends who also didn’t force you to read their metas is also something I am not okay with. You have a platform; you know people will see it.
I agree with your tags that “bad writing” is overused and is too often a cheap “I didn’t like this” substitute. I also believe bad writing does exist, and while to an extent it’s all subjective, there are also general consensuses. Instead of being like “I disagree with this opinion, and here’s why” this post uses ad hominem insults months after the fact. If you read metas, that was your decision, and if you didn’t like them, then why not engage directly and use your own evidence to counter their points? Or simply ignore what you don’t like, since that’s what those of us who didn’t like the ending have been told over and over again that that’s what we should do? Doesn’t that go both ways?
The series is over. If we are expected to move on and not comment on it anymore because we didn’t like it, why is this blog still repeatedly commenting derogatorily on meta writers? If it was about the metas themselves, that is fine, but again, it’s not: it’s about the writers, who are real people–and that’s not okay.
Please stop vaguing about people whose opinions on fiction you do not like.
Hiei tea! Really delicious with a good kick of caffeine
No, I don’t think they’ll ally! They wanted to steal from him and their personalities (at least Chrollo’s) are pretty much antagonistic to each other. That Phantom Troupe is not one to seek out allies, either. I think they’ll have to be desperate before seeking out allies and then Tserriednich is not on the list.
I’m not sure he will kill Shizuku (though I do think she’ll die) so I don’t want to say it would def happen–it’s definitely possible given her prophecy if she decides to stick to that, and I can see the reference to Tserriednich’s treasure in it as well, but we will see.
