Which princes will die and which princes will survive in your opinion? Also can you guess the order of their death? (Hype for hxh returning from hiatus again)

Woble will absolutely survive. Benjamin will die at some point probably early on because I suspect the real main antagonist this arc is going to be Tserriednich, not Benjgamin. Tserriednich will likely die as well (he better) but towards the end. Otherwise, I’m not sure, and honestly I don’t think order matters. Camilla I do think will die. I’ll discuss Kacho and Fugetsu a bit later on. The other princes all seem like fodder to me, so…

I would like to see Halkenburg surviving, but his focus on fate this recent chapter has me concerned. The King embodies the philosophy of fatalism and Halkenburg is now
succumbing to it, and that’s exactly the attitude killing Kurapika
and Chrollo, too. Halkenburg is desperate to save others but also suicidal. It’s interesting that his nen power seems to be the opposite of this.

Halkenburg is a Kurapika foil for sure, with the fatalism and also the desire to protect others competing with his own suicidal tendencies. Which is also something Chrollo deals with as well, and so I expect this arc to take on that concept and deconstruct it.

His nen beast, if @aspoonofsugar‘s theory that they represent the repressed parts of the princes holds true (and I think it definitely does) saves his life–because deep down he both wants to die and to live, like Kurapika, because there’s an element of self-preservation in there that wants him to die. He can’t handle having failed people–his siblings, like Kurapika can’t handle having failed his tribe by not dying with them in the first place and now by getting all the eyes.

Halkenburg’s power is also reminiscent of Kurapika’s defining trait: it isolates him and protects him from the outside world. Kurapika isolates and protects himself from growing close to people.

I can thereby also see Halkenburg dying (because he is very OP right now and that tends not to get you what you want in HxH), and providing a warning to Kurapika, especially because Kurapika’s tried to work with Halkenburg before as well. But I do think we should see more of Halkenburg’s relationship with Tserriednich whom he’s supposedly close with despite them being like, opposites, before he dies.

Kacho and Fugetsu… I’m a character pessimist for survival, remember. I really want them both to survive. I hope they do. I strongly suspect at least one of them will die in the banquet. I am very scared for them.

Kurapikas line on “my worst enemy, will be myself” like… I don’t know why, but it just immediately made me be like.. Yup, that’s him😂 The solitude of his character for strength, vengeance and achieving his set targets is one that always made him that much more distinguishable out of the big 4 for me, and their own salient differences in motives, flaws and assets. Also I kept on thinking to myself… I-is this gonna be the chapter where the editor was crying?😂😂😂 oh boy that should be 👀

Right? It’s very Kurapika. I was like honey it’s not just for this war that is your biggest flaw for like. The entire story.

It also seems to be setting up for the inevitable reality that to survive this war with Oito and Woble also surviving (and I do believe they will), he is not going to be able to work alone and do it, and will need allies.

Did you think Shouto was negatively influenced by endeavor? Because his actions mirror endeavor because endeavor had a powerful influence on him

Hm. Not exactly. I do believe Endeavor has traumatized Shouto. 

I think this is a question that needs to be answered sensitively, because Shouto is an abuse victim. I don’t think he is on a path to be like Endeavor because he has very clearly been checking himself (as we see during the Licensing Exam). Dabi, presuming he’s Touya, is the one I would say is actually more becoming like Endeavor than he would want. Shouto, for example, is afraid to use his flames; Dabi overrelies on them, like Endeaqvor. 

That being said Shouto does have a tendency to rely all on himself, which is a defining trait of Endeavor’s as well–but for Shouto, this comes from trauma. He was deliberately isolated from his siblings and then Rei, his mother who cared for him, snapped and was committed to a hospital. He was always having to rely on himself. He tends to focus on the goal more than on the people around him, but he’s been moving away from that via his friendship with Deku and others. I don’t know if this is so much taking after Endeavor as it is a child never getting the chance to be anything else but what his father was trying to make him into in order to survive, and then as soon as he gets the chance unlearning and learning how to be himself, but it’s a painful process for him and yet he’s brave enough to deliberately choose not to be like his father even when it means confronting the less flattering parts of himself. 

So: I do think Shouto is dealing with the effects of trauma from Endeavor, which is a negative influence of sorts, but I also see him overcoming them and find that beautiful to watch.

How’s your day been?

It’s been good! Despite rage-stroking at Congress, lol. But even that I mostly just feel profoundly grateful to Dr. Ford for testifying. I have also gotten some writing done, a work meeting went well, and I had muttar paneer for lunch and have leftover channa masala I made earlier this week for dinner, so it’s been good.
