So the volume I think is for the last ten chapters (through 380), not the current chapters. BUT I do think they will show up this volume. It is possible they are at the banquet–we know Chrollo wanted to go into the higher decks. In that case I’m fearful for Shizuku and Bonolenov and not because of Hisoka.
I actually think Morena’s going to get rid of most of the mafia and some princes and honestly some spiders along the way since she and Chrollo really do need to meet at some point thanks to their very blatant parallels.
I don’t know about remorse exactly, but I do think Chrollo might desperately try to save the spiders he has left after more spiders die, which might require some remorse. I do think the story needs to and will prove his philosophy of “well if they’re not affiliated with me it’s okay to kill” wrong, which would presumably result in him realizing that as well, whether or not it’s too late for him. For right now I still think he’ll make it, though.
Yep. It’s Chrollo’s fault for being arrogant, and I do want him to realize that as well.
Pakunoda basically forced empathy on them, lol. They understood exactly what she was doing and why, and what she wanted. Because of that, yes, I do think they changed. Even Phinks and Feitan–the two most vocal members who fell on the side of erring towards following Chrollo’s ideology at the expense of himself–then spent their time finding a nen exorcist for Chrollo. I’m not saying they’re all like a little twisted family (they kinda are in some senses though) but that they clearly are more open to the idea of sticking by a person more so than an ideology. If Chrollo decides to get out of dodge, maybe they will actually consider following.
I am curious. Like, before Paku’s sacrifice, we know that Chrollo was on the side Feitan and Phinks and Shalnark were advocating: stick to Chrollo’s ideology. It doesn’t matter what happens to Chrollo as a person. He told Kurapika he did not care if he died, and Melody said he wasn’t lying.
But after Paku died to save him and his troupe dedicated themselves to searching for a nen exorcist to save him from loneliness of never being able to contact them again, I wonder. Chrollo does care for his Troupe, we know that, and instead of possibly welcoming a murderer of a friend, he wants to kill Hisoka for it (the irony is that Hisoka likely killed a member to join anyways, and Chrollo considered asking the chain bastard to join even after he killed Uvogin, according to Machi). I am thinking this arc will reverse that situation, and ask Chrollo to make the choice this time.
I think the PT’s supposed philanthropy is usually something that benefits them, but it also shows us that they are capable of good as well. Should Chrollo and a member or two survive this arc, I would like to see that explored if we ever get to Meteor City, which we probably will.
I think it’s a major death flag for her. I think both Shizuku and Bonolenov are likely to die, as is Franklin. Shizuku and Bonolenov being with Chrollo, their abilities noted to be poorly matched for Bungee Gum, and Shizuku’s ability cleaning up the Phantom Troupe’s messes (literally)… it doesn’t look good for them. Franklin also doesn’t really have much of an arc. Nobunaga, Machi, Feitan, and Phinks hopefully have a little more development coming, since they were the main four + Paku involved in arguing over whether to save Chrollo or not (and I think that central question–follow an ideology or save a person, is key to Kurapika and Chrollo’s characters this arc). Kalluto and Illumi are of course going to be fine, thanks to Killua plot armor. Though I’m suspicious of Illumi’s loyalties.
No, I don’t hate Hisoka! Though of course I was Not Happy when it happened. He’s always been a murderer and he’s a more fleshed out character than either of those two were. Kortopi’s personality amounted to “mop.” I did like Shalnark though and was sad Hisoka killed him. I was mad at him, but I am also mad at Chrollo for their deaths, even if he didn’t kill them.
If Chrollo hadn’t needed to prove his strength by fighting Hisoka, if he hadn’t borrowed their abilities, if he didn’t go around creating so many enemies by not contemplating whether or not he really needs to kill people–well, not just Shalnark and Kortopi, but Pakunoda and Uvogin might very well be alive as well.
Gon’s question is the question, and it is indeed the key to understanding himself for Chrollo. Please accept that you are a human as well with human needs like connection and try to forge them instead of wavering on this line of being aloof and connecting at the same time. Please heed your wakeup call; I can’t handle you dying just yet.
When it matters most, you will be unable to reach anyone.
It would be unwise to answer the phone,
For the death-bringer will come calling one time in three.”
The man of the hour, the Troupe member who has died most recently and sparked the most theories about these poems. Let’s jump right in.
His fortune obviously says to avoid phone calls, so there’s no way to interpret that other than literally. The second line is the striking on here. “When it matters most [your time of death] you will be unable to reach anyone”. What that means, in my opinion, is that Togashi FORESHADOWED the fact that Shalnark would not have his Nen ability at the time of his death. 200 chapters later. Now, in the most recent chapter of HxH, you see Shalnark’s phone ring as Hisoka turns the corner and kills him. He was just on the phone with Chrollo right before the time of his death.
This was not discovered directly by me, but people have gone back and checked how many times Shalnark has used his phone since the time of his death. The answer is three. Meaning the ‘death-bringer’ (Hisoka) was destined to arrive on the third call and we didn’t even KNOW.
)
shalnarks fortune foreshadowing
( and remember the girl who originally had the ability always kept herself from hearing the prophecys she made so its possible that chrollo hearing the prophecys made the prophecys impossible to change/ longer lasting ) for shizukas prophecys “The calendar loses a precious component.
The remaining months gather to mourn.
You join your ally as an offering,
To keep him from being lonely.
You will find eternal rest in a room
Filled with black merchandise.
Beware solitude above all.
and black merchandise can refer to the merchandise of the black market that Tserriednich had ( and people died for them to be created) and the king referred to all the people on the boat as offerings and tserriednich is known killer of women so it would fit shizuka could die in his room
I definitely think this is a possibility. While we know prophecies can be changed and averted, Chrollo played close to his and hence it came to pass. I don’t know about Shalnark, but Shizuku recently asked Chrollo to read her fortune again, so perhaps she placed weight on it as well and therefore it could come to pass. But if so I do think it needs to be done carefully to contradict Chrollo’s fatalistic reasoning, which the series does thus far seem to condemn.
I also think it makes sense for Tserriednich to be involved. Thus far Chrollo is projecting all of his guilt onto Hisoka–this arc is calling him out for his cavalier attitude towards life and death by killing his troupe, which Hisoka has realized, and therefore while I do think he will lost more spiders I also think not all of them will be lost by Hisoka’s hands. I’m expecting Morena and her minions, given their extremely obvious parallels to Chrollo and his Troupe, to take down a spider or two. Tserriednich is also possible and would make sense from the point of view of calling Chrollo out for his all-too-often prioritizing treasure over people’s lives (he boarded the death boat in the first place to steal Tserriednich’s treasure), it’d challenge Chrollo in that he couldn’t project everything onto Hisoka, and it’d give Chrollo and Kurapika a common enemy.
Me too. Illumi is my favorite, and I too am interested to see how he and Kalluto interact since they are foils. Both of them are active in trying to get their brother back (for both of them likely it’s Killua too), but I somehow wonder if Kalluto’s loyalty to the Zoldycks is a bit… different than Illumi’s.
Yeah, I would like to see them interact with Morena. I definitely think she and Chrollo will interact because her ability to create murderous followers is a direct contrast to his Troupe. But Morena was scarred and cast out by her king father because she was illegitimate. Illumi and Kalluto were rejected as heirs by their parents (side note: I sincerely doubt it’s a coincidence Killua is the one who looks the most like Silva and was chosen as the heir. Ugh.) For Illumi this probably stings more because he’s the eldest, and frankly despite him never hinting verbally he has no problem with it his actions kind of betray that he does. He wants to have control of the family via Killua, but he also wants Killua’s love.
A fundamental characteristic of Illumi’s is that he is repressed. Even on the volume cover every other spider is frowning. Illumi has no mouth, fitting with the repeated comments that he is expressionless.
But we know he has those feelings.
Anyways all that to say I see the potential for an encounter with Morena, should one happen, provoking said repressed feelings in Illumi. (This arc already seems to be dealing with repression via the princes and their nen beasts.) Which I actually think would make him more dangerous to Killua and Alluka in the short-term but also gives me some hope for his character in the long run. But that’d be beyond this arc.
I think Illumi and Hisoka should interact. They’re engaged-ish, so we should see them. I’m also wondering, again, if Illumi is as serious about this as he says he is. He is emotional even if he’s repressing, so is he really a-ok with killing Hisoka, who is the closest thing he has to someone actually liking him? Does he really want to do it? Or might he find another solution? Illumi joining the Spiders is also a fundamental conflict of interest with his supposed loyalty to the Zoldycks, so… does he expect them to survive? Or is that conflict going to blow up in his face this arc or the next? I’m also curious to see if Kalluto and Illumi will have conflict, even if neither of them express it to each other.
Another note: neither of them are really at risk of dying imo. Illumi has too much unfinished business with Killua so there’s no way, and Kalluto also has that set up for finding his brother so I’m not really concerned for him either.
I do think there’s a chance, and I would like to see it!
I’m taking this line from Shizuku, unfortunately, as likely foreshadowing:
Shizuku’s death would be interesting from a thematic perspective as well thanks to her ability–usually used to clean up the PT’s mess–no longer being an option, because this time Chrollo really is in way over his head. But who knows.
But I think it would be a good thing to see Bonolenov and Kurapika interact. He’s one of the least fleshed-out PT members (besides Kortopi who, alas, is no more. RIP Kortopi). But his being from a similar background has a lot of potential for any interactions with Kurapika, and if he does not make it, it could be interesting for Kurapika to have to consider whether he wants to let the legacy of his tribe be the sad end Kurapika is fully aware he’s heading towards, or if he wants to deviate from that path.
Instead of Love Boat we’ve got Death Boat. It’s a disaster :)))) Also Morena and her crew are out to get the princes and everyone else on the way. Game of Thrones got nothing on this. 😛
My predictions for this arc are that Chrollo will lose several more Spiders. Shizuku, Bonolenov, and Franklin I think are the most at risk since they have the least development and were less of a part of the whole ‘law vs people being with you’ debate when it came to saving Chrollo in Yorknew–Machi and Nobunaga were very much on the people side (Paku too), and Feitan and Phinks (and Shalnark) on the law side–law being in this instance the rules Chrollo has set. The whole thing is both of those spider sets, if you will, love Chrollo, but for Feitan and Phinks it’s more about Chrollo’s philosophy whereas for Machi and Nobunaga it’s more about him as a person. I think Chrollo will have to make a choice since he tries to toe the line between philosophy and people–his quest to simultaneously be close to people while being aloof is a defining trait of his character. Either choice he makes may result in him losing more regardless, but if he leans towards protecting his Spiders, he’ll probably have to team up with Kurapika.
Kurapika is not entirely likely to be okay with hurting Illumi or Kalluto, imo (well, more Kalluto, and those two are not at all at risk thanks to plot armor named Killua). So while I can see a temporary team up with Hisoka for Kurapika to mirror the one in Yorknew, I can also see a solution to this arc being Kurapika eventually turning on Hisoka again and helping Chrollo get his Spiders off this boat, and Oito and Woble with him. Kurapika will almost certainly have to choose between the eyes and his (living) clients (Oito and Woble) and I can see Chrollo having to choose between his revenge and stealing the treasure, or saving his friends as well. Since they’re shadows, I would hope that would end in them working together, though it could also end in them having a moment of understanding but choosing separate paths. I think the former is more likely though/more interesting thematically, since Chrollo is his shadow and you should reconcile with it.
I’m not going to do every character, but simply the characters I think are most important and/or my favorites. 😛 Also, this is just my opinion and definitely open to debate! MBTI isn’t a science; it’s just a fun tool.
Main Characters:
Gon Freecss: ESFP “The Entertainer”
The biggest challenge ESFPs face is that they are often so focused on immediate pleasures that they neglect the duties and responsibilities that make those luxuries possible. Complex analysis, repetitive tasks, and matching statistics to real consequences are not easy activities for ESFPs. They’d rather rely on luck or opportunity, or simply ask for help from their extensive circle of friends.
Killua Zoldyck: INTJ “The Architect”
It’s lonely at the top… People with the INTJ personality type are imaginative yet decisive, ambitious yet private, amazingly curious, but they do not squander their energy.
Kurapika: ISFJ “The Defender”
ISFJ personalities (especially Turbulent ones) are often meticulous to the point of perfectionism… ISFJs take their responsibilities personally, consistently going above and beyond, doing everything they can to exceed expectations and delight others, at work and at home. ISFJ personalities are a wonderful group, rarely sitting idle while a worthy cause remains unfinished
Leorio Paladiknight: ESFJ “The Consul”
Supportive and outgoing, ESFJs can always be spotted at a party – they’re the ones finding time to chat and laugh with everyone! But their devotion goes further than just breezing through because they have to. ESFJs truly enjoy hearing about their friends’ relationships and activities, remembering little details and always standing ready to talk things out with warmth and sensitivity.
Hisoka Morow: ENTP “The Debater”
The ENTP personality type is the ultimate devil’s advocate, thriving on the process of shredding arguments and beliefs and letting the ribbons drift in the wind for all to see. Unlike their more determined Judging (J) counterparts, ENTPs don’t do this because they are trying to achieve some deeper purpose or strategic goal, but for the simple reason that it’s fun.
Illumi Zoldyck: ISTJ “The Logistician”
Their defining characteristics of integrity, practical logic and tireless dedication to duty make ISTJs a vital core to many families, as well as organizations that uphold traditions, rules and standards, such as law offices, regulatory bodies and military. People with the ISTJ personality type enjoy taking responsibility for their actions, and take pride in the work they do – when working towards a goal, ISTJs hold back none of their time and energy completing each relevant task with accuracy and patience..Dependency on others is often seen by ISTJs as a weakness, and their passion for duty, dependability and impeccable personal integrity forbid falling into such a trap… their blunt approach leaves others with the false impression that ISTJs are cold, or even robotic. People with this type may struggle to express emotion or affection outwardly, but the suggestion that they don’t feel, or worse have no personality at all, is deeply hurtful.
Chrollo Lucilfer: INTJ “The Architect”
He’s a confusing one because I kept going back and forth on the F or T function. But I lean T.
While this may be intended as an insult by their peers, they more than likely identify with it and are even proud of it, greatly enjoying their broad and deep body of knowledge. INTJs enjoy sharing what they know as well, confident in their mastery of their chosen subjects, but owing to their Intuitive (N) and Judging (J) traits, they prefer to design and execute a brilliant plan within their field rather than share opinions on “uninteresting” distractions like gossip… A paradox to most observers, INTJs are able to live by glaring contradictions that nonetheless make perfect sense – at least from a purely rational perspective. For example, INTJs are simultaneously the most starry-eyed idealists and the bitterest of cynics, a seemingly impossible conflict.
Dumpster Fire The Zoldyck Family
Alluka: ESFJ “The Consul”
ESFJs love to be of service, enjoying any role that allows them to participate in a meaningful way, so long as they know that they are valued and appreciated.
Milluki Zoldyck: ISTP, “The Virtuoso”
While their mechanical tendencies can make them appear simple at a glance, ISTPs are actually quite enigmatic. Friendly but very private, calm but suddenly spontaneous, extremely curious but unable to stay focused on formal studies, ISTP personalities can be a challenge to predict, even by their friends and loved ones. ISTPs can seem very loyal and steady for a while, but they tend to build up a store of impulsive energy that explodes without warning, taking their interests in bold new directions.
Kalluto Zoldyck: ISFJ “The Defender”
I went back and forth on whether he was an ISTJ or ISFJ but decided on F thanks to that one brief snippet we had into Kalluto’s mind and how he desired to help Feitan whereas the other PT members did not.
ISFJ personalities (especially Turbulent ones) are often meticulous to the point of perfectionism, and though they procrastinate, they can always be relied on to get the job done on time.
The Phantom Troupe (or my faves there)
Machi: INTP “The Logician”
Further, with Thinking (T) as one of their governing traits, INTPs are unlikely to understand emotional complaints at all, and their friends won’t find a bedrock of emotional support in them. People with the INTP personality type would much rather make a series of logical suggestions for how to resolve the underlying issue, a perspective that is not always welcomed by their Feeling (F) companions… INTP personalities are so prone to reassessing their own thoughts and theories, worrying that they’ve missed some critical piece of the puzzle, that they can stagnate, lost in an intangible world where their thoughts are never truly applied.
Feitan: ISTJ “The Logistician”
ISTJ personalities are no-nonsense, and when they’ve made a decision, they will relay the facts necessary to achieve their goal, expecting others to grasp the situation immediately and take action. ISTJs have little tolerance for indecisiveness, but lose patience even more quickly if their chosen course is challenged with impractical theories, especially if they ignore key details – if challenges becomes time-consuming debates, ISTJs can become noticeably angry as deadlines tick nearer.
Phinks: ESTJ “The Executive”
ESTJs are aware of their surroundings and live in a world of clear, verifiable facts – the surety of their knowledge means that even against heavy resistance, they stick to their principles and push an unclouded vision of what is and is not acceptable… However, ESTJs don’t work alone, and they expect their reliability and work ethic to be reciprocated – people with this personality type meet their promises, and if partners or subordinates jeopardize them through incompetence or laziness, or worse still, dishonesty, they do not hesitate to show their wrath.
Pakunoda: ISFJ “The Defender”
ISFJs utilize excellent memories not to retain data and trivia, but to remember people, and details about their lives.
Shizuku: INTP “The Logician”
Usually known as the philosopher, the architect, or the dreamy professor… They may appear to drift about in an unending daydream, but INTPs’ thought process is unceasing, and their minds buzz with ideas from the moment they wake up. This constant thinking can have the effect of making them look pensive and detached,
Uvogin: ESTP “The Entrepreneur”
If ESTPs aren’t careful though, they may get too caught in the moment, take things too far, and run roughshod over more sensitive people, or forget to take care of their own health and safety… ESTPs are full of passion and energy, complemented by a rational, if sometimes distracted, mind. Inspiring, convincing and colorful, they are natural group leaders, pulling everyone along the path less traveled, bringing life and excitement everywhere they go. Putting these qualities to a constructive and rewarding end is ESTPs’ true challenge.
Shalnark: ENTP, “The Debater”
ENTPs only make up about three percent of the population, which is just right, as it lets them create original ideas, then step back to let more numerous and fastidious personalities handle the logistics of implementation and maintenance.
Nobunaga: ESFP “The Entertainer”
[T]here’s no greater joy for ESFP personalities than to bring everyone else along for the ride. ESFPs can chat for hours, sometimes about anything but the topic they meant to talk about, and share their loved ones’ emotions through good times and bad.
Chimera Ants:
Meruem: ISTJ “The Logistician”
[P]eople with the ISTJ personality type often prefer to work alone, or at least have their authority clearly established by hierarchy, where they can set and achieve their goals without debate or worry over other’s reliability.ISTJs have sharp, fact-based minds, and prefer autonomy and self-sufficiency to reliance on someone or something.
Komugi: ISTP “The Virtuoso”
ISTPs love to explore with their hands and their eyes, touching and examining the world around them with cool rationalism and spirited curiosity… ISTPs explore ideas through creating, troubleshooting, trial and error and first-hand experience. … ISTPs enjoy lending a hand and sharing their experience, especially with the people they care about… ISTP personalities can be a challenge to predict, even by their friends and loved ones.
Pitou: ESFJ “The Consul”
ESFJs are the cheerleaders and the quarterbacks, setting the tone, taking the spotlight and leading their teams forward to victory and fame… ESFJs continue to enjoy supporting their friends and loved ones, organizing social gatherings and doing their best to make sure everyone is happy.
Shaiapouf: ISTJ “The Logistician”
People with the ISTJ personality type enjoy taking responsibility for their actions, and take pride in the work they do – when working towards a goal, ISTJs hold back none of their time and energy completing each relevant task with accuracy and patience… ISTJs tend to keep their opinions to themselves and let the facts do the talking, but it can be a long time before observable evidence tells the whole story.ISTJs need to remember to take care of themselves – their stubborn dedication to stability and efficiency can compromise those goals in the long term as others lean ever-harder on them, creating an emotional strain that can go unexpressed for years, only finally coming out after it’s too late to fix. If they can find coworkers and spouses who genuinely appreciate and complement their qualities, who enjoy the brightness, clarity and dependability that they offer, ISTJs will find that their stabilizing role is a tremendously satisfying one, knowing that they are part of a system that works.
Palm Siberia: ISFJ “The Defender”
ISFJs utilize excellent memories not to retain data and trivia, but to remember people, and details about their lives.
Kurapika’s Side Character Buds
Senritsu/Melody: “The Advocate”
INFJs indeed share a unique combination of traits: though soft-spoken, they have very strong opinions and will fight tirelessly for an idea they believe in. They are decisive and strong-willed, but will rarely use that energy for personal gain – INFJs will act with creativity, imagination, conviction and sensitivity not to create advantage, but to create balance. Egalitarianism and karma are very attractive ideas to INFJs, and they tend to believe that nothing would help the world so much as using love and compassion to soften the hearts of tyrants.
Oito Hui Guo Rou: ESFJ “The Consul”
Moral of this: Why Oito should take over the Kakin Empire and make it a matriarchy.
ESFJs are more concerned with fashion and their appearance, their social status and the standings of other people. Practical matters and gossip are their bread and butter, but ESFJs do their best to use their powers for good. ESFJs are altruists, and they take seriously their responsibility to help and to do the right thing.
