Which two characters’ dynamic (doesn’t have to be a ship) would you like to see explored more in snk and why? I would love it if you could give 3 pairings. I love reading all your metas šŸ‘€

Hello anon!

Thank you for your kind words and sorry if I took a while to answer you!

Ok,
I have decided to cheat a little bit, in the sense that one of the
three relationships I am mentioning isn’t between only two characters.

1) Levi and the 104th

Levi is introduced immediately as the main trio’s mentor:

In
his first official appearance (excluding the extra-chapter called after
him) he ends up saving Armin and Eren and doing something Mikasa can’t.

In
the Female Titan Arc his role as mentor especially when it comes to
Mikasa and Eren (who both parallel him in opposite ways) is cemented:

I can imagine watching YYH for the first time is quite the experience. I really can’t remember much of it by now so maybe I should rewatch… But anyway, it was one of my faves during my early teen days and the Chapter Black arc was one of the highlights of those times. Come to think of it, my love for it may influence how much I’m loving Eren’s arc lately. And speaking of the Chapter Black arc, I’m wondering, what’s your take on it?

Yay, another YYH ask! I really loved it, in case it wasn’t obvious šŸ˜›

I loved the Chapter Black Arc! That and the Dark Tournament are my two favorite arcs, and they both really give the individual characters such a chance to shine that they elevate the series as a whole from standard shounen to standard shounen with a powerful heart beating inside it.

I wrote this on Sensui a few days ago. Sensui was such an interesting character, and he and Toguru both as antagonists really proved their worth in that they weren’t just there to be big bads, but were there to press the protagonists and challenge them, and their points weren’t just ā€œmuahahaha evil just because.ā€ I also loved Sensui’s relationship with Itsuki, which I heard today is apparently definitely intended to be romantic? Which didn’t surprise me because it seemed very romantically coded when reading it, but it does impress me because seeing representation in the early 1990s is really cool. But anyways, I cried when I read their last scene together.

Probably my favorite scene in that arc was strangely also the most upsetting scene for me, where Kurama kills the child. I’m glad Koenma resurrected him, but we see that Kurama is essentially destroyed from doing it, and he is furious, horrified, distraught, and it again reinforces what a great antagonist Sensui is in that it forces Kurama to deal, yet again, with the self-hatred he’s been battling since his introduction. (This is how you write a protagonist killing a kid and still have them be a protagonist.) The entire arc dealt with redemption and reconciling with the past (Yusuke finding out about his heritage, the younger ones breaking away from Sensui, etc.) to grow up, and I liked it a lot.

So uh. I’m just gonna go ahead and address the elephant in the room when it comes to the next episode Snk. There’s no way in hell they’re gonna show the shit machine or even allude at it imo! However I feel like the anime needs to do something to show how sick Zackly is. They cut out the line of him saying he’d spent decades thinking of how he could degrade the nobles. I really want the anime to show that despite overthrowing the corrupt monarch having Zackly in charge isn’t much better.

I hope they don’t lol! XD I don’t think it was necessary for the story especially since it doesn’t seeeeem like Zackley has any big villainous role to play (maybe a little bit of one in this arc but idk), and if so, it’s just really stomach-turning seemingly for the sake of being sickening. I think they already have alluded to Zackley’s shadier side in his conversation with Erwin last episode, where he compared the two of them (which was not a fair comparison, poor Erwin) and I suspect, or what I’d do, is show more of that dynamic with Erwin and Zackley leading up to Shiganshina and show that Zackley is not a good person in terms of that.

an answer to a post endeavor is not going to save dabi shoto will because endeavor screwed up more than he already did even though he showed signs of remorse thats not enough to get dabi to his side only shoto will shop him

Yeah, that’s what I think as well. We don’t know how Dabi views Shouto exactly, but we know if he’s Touya he doesn’t know Shouto well (presumably way less well than even Natsuo who didn’t know Shouto’s favorite food was soba until recently). Hence it’s not unreasonable to think that Dabi might believe Shouto is another Endeavor in the making, especially since Endeavor kept him apart from his siblings. But Shouto, of course, is not another Endeavor, and I think realizing that might be important for Dabi–seeing that Shouto, truly, wants to be a hero in all respects. Even though I do believe Endeavor is changing and will try to save Dabi, Dabi might not be willing to forgive him–and he should not have to. That’s why I think Shouto has an important role to play in that.

The fact that we got inside Ochako’s head in the recent chapter, even if it was like one panel, gives me hope. The fact that every time Ochako appears to be about to have an arc, it doesn’t happen, makes me worried that my hope is in vain. (It’s like Touka or Saiko in TG:RE – it’s not that they have no character development, it’s that they don’t have complete arcs, and the development they get tends to be squandered in the grand scheme of things.)

SAME. Please, Horikoshi Sensei, give Ochaco an arc; my daughter deserves one. I do think she will get one… I hope. Horikoshi has said that he considers her development to be important, but I also just hope it’s about more than her crush on Deku though I do think obviously that has to be a part of it.

But yeah, I lost a lot of faith after Touka and Saiko never got them in :re (before stans yell at one of us, Touka ended and began TG:re waiting by a window for Kaneki; she didn’t have an arc in :re despite having the best female deuteragonist arc perhaps ever in TG & I’m allowed to be disappointed with that just like others are allowed to like it, please don’t harass me).

all might will fail to save shigaraki but endeavor will succeed in saving dabi from his current path

megashadowdragon:

after all might found out that shigaraki was nana shimuras grandchild gran torino told him that he is off the case because all might cant really see shigaraki as a villain and he would waver and thats dangerous asking him what are you going to do when you see him and regardless of his lineage he is a criminal nowĀ

and dabi is endeavors sonĀ

http://lingtosite.tumblr.com/post/146032879059/theory-dabi-is-todoroki-shoutos-older-brother

so I think the same thing will be brought up with dabi and endeavor

there is no doubt in my mind that endeavor will try to save dabi because he will believe he is at fault for dabi and all might will try to save shigaraki because of how much he loved nanaĀ  and his nature but all might will fail in saving shigaraki and end up being killedĀ

while endeavor will succeed and topĀ  off his redemptionĀ

this is helped byhowĀ  all might and endeavor were/are foils

sinceĀ  Ā While they are both very powerful heroes, Endeavor is only in it for the sake of winning and feels like becoming the best is the most important thing, while All Might is legitimately trying to do good. They also contrast in visual style. All Might has a more traditionally superheroic style with bright colors and a more silver-age style costume, while Endeavor wears a simple dark bodysuit whose details come from his flames, which include Shoulders of doomĀ  in more typical dark-age fashion.

so all might and endeavor would both have people connected to them who are with the league of villians shigaraki (nana shimuras grandson who he loved like his own mother

image

Ā ) and dabi endeavors sonĀ  and when endeavor finds out he will react poorly

and they both have/will feel guilty over how shigaraki and dabi ended upĀ

for dabi and endeavor endeavor will know it was because of his abuse of his family that dabi ended up like this

and for shigarakiĀ

image

nana left her childĀ  at foster so she can raise one for all (all might ) so all might blames himselfĀ  because she left her child at foster care to raise him.

so it would be fitting contrast if all might who has a more traditionally heroic and silver age style fail and was a true hero in saving someones heart and turn a villains heart around whileĀ  endeavor who is in more dark age fashion and wasnt a true hero at the start and a horrible person and more focused on strength ends up saving a villains heartĀ  and getting them to have a change of heartĀ  when it would usually be the other way around

so the pro hero who pushed himself to the limit for the people in order to being the symbol of peace and save peoples hearts by always smilingĀ  would fail to saveĀ  the villain he tried toĀ  reach out to while the pro hero who only cared about strength at the beginning and was a horrible person and even now is has a tough demeanorĀ  would end up succeeding in saving a villains heart turning him from the path. and it would be funny since for years endeavor wanted to surpass all mights strength and at firstĀ Ā doesn’t realize that the reason why All Might always beats him is related to the fact that All Might is kind-hearted and morally strongĀ and believes that the only reason he loses the spot of #1 Hero is simply because he isn’t as strong as All Might, rather than the fact he is unable to inspire people like him Ā and abused his family for that purposeĀ  of being number 1 hero and focusing on strength but in the end when both of them wanted to go to someone who had become a villain and save their hearts and have them turn away from the path of a villian endeavor will succeed where all might fails when all might is the type of person that people imagine would be able to change a person

not to mention of course the fact that all might will end up dying

Thanks for the tag!

I have mixed feelings! I do think both All Might and Endeavor will try to save Shigaraki and Dabi, respectively, from themselves (they better). I also think All Might is certainly going to die without having saved Shigaraki, but I can also see his death being a catalyst that will spark a seed that Deku will help grow, and I do think Deku will save Shigaraki.

The story is definitely endorsing All Might’s version of heroism via how All Might is framed, in terms of his selflessness and compassion, so I don’t see a narrative purpose in his death not resulting in Shigaraki being saved. His flaws the story calls out are in not trying to save Shigaraki, so once he tries, there’s no point to denying that resulting in anything. Futility and nihilism are not themes present in BNHA; in another story, perhaps, but not in this one. I think Shigaraki being redeemed is highly likely.

I also think the same for Dabi, just like you do! I’ve written before that Horikoshi uses some pretty textbook (like. literally. it’s in textbooks) techniques like ā€œsave the catā€ for establishing that the audience should like Dabi and see that he has a compassionate side, and also, Dabi’s deeds as a villain are pretty pathetic and lacking in permanent consequence. While I do think that will change at some point, that’s again something a writer does when they want to leave the character a door for redemption. And there’s always that panel of Dabi heading towards the light while Hawks heads towards the darkness.

I also think Shouto will have to be involved in Dabi’s redemption–he has to be, since he’s one of the main characters! šŸ˜€ Endeavor will likely sacrifice himself for Dabi (if he is Touya, which I think he is), and he may or may not survive it, but I think the actual saving of these villains is up to Deku and Shouto.

Do you think Eren is gonna get eaten by someone in the SC and the story will continue on without him or do you think he’s gonna find a way to avoid being eaten even if it’s by force?

I’ll just say bluntly is a 0% chance Eren gets eaten and the story continues without him, don’t worry! He doesn’t have to be the hero (that’s Armin) to be the protagonist, and he definitely isn’t going to be eaten or die before the last chapters.

I do think the conversation with Armin and Mikasa will end poorly, but I don’t think eating Eren as a plan will go anywhere. It was more a ā€œhere’s how we raise the stakes for this conversation coming upā€ than foreshadowing, and it emphasized again how Eren’s decision to attack Marlay was Bad and undermined his ultimate goals: protecting the people he loves. He said he didn’t want them to take on his titan form, and now they might have to, and that was emphasized this most recent chapter so it’s probably not going to go much further.

There’s no way Zeke hasn’t factored this into his plan given all we know about Zeke and his craftiness, and Eren himself said he could escape any time he wanted. I am very, very concerned about that plan of Zeke’s, but yeah, he needs Eren for that. He’ll be fine.

What did you think of the Three Kings arc? I really liked Mukuro and Hiei’s interactions because of the edge lord angst.

I watched the anime and then read it, because I’d heard the anime fleshes it out more. It definitely does, but it also censored (understandably, I doubt not censoring it was even an option) Mukuro’s backstory, which was really vital in terms of her relationship with Hiei.Ā

I loved Kurama’s fight because, baby (I cried when he created the sakura tree) and also of course Hiei and Mukuro’s. Mukuro quickly became one of my favorite characters (talk about a great female character even in a rushed arc!) and I love her relationship with Hiei. She parallels Yukina in some ways, as well.Ā
