Aaaa the newest chapter!! I liked it, what about you? I love how Uta and Yomo (and Itori)’s friendship was portrayed. In the end they are all still friends. (And there are mentions of Pleasure). Also Amon!! Do you think Donato will be gone for good this time? I love how Takigawa didn’t interfere with Amon and Donato’s fight but instead giving Amon the words to push him forward. Please tell me your opinion!

I liked it too. Utaren is subtextually canon so I will cling to it and run around screaming LOOK AT IT LOOK AT IT LOOK AT THE BEAUTY OF THIS YIN/YANG SHIP OF DREAMS.

Ahem. Okay. Back to other things. I’m happy Pleasure-Chan was mentioned, I love how Takizawa is very much a brother to Hakatori (in how he’s clearly teaching her) because that reminds me of his relationship with Seina. I want him to realize that he can be a good big brother for both Seina and Hakatori, that there doesn’t have to be this human/ghoul divide, that he can accept himself as both.

I was also happy Amon said he loved Donato. See, this is exactly what I had in mind for Amon’s realizing he loved Donato. Donato is his abuser, but he loved him, and healing from an abuser does not mean disavowing that you ever loved them if you did, in fact, love them. It’s not your fault or wrong for loving them; it’s their fault for not taking care of your love. I wanted Amon to realize the complexity of the situation and that he too was a part of the problem, which could only be realized through him reflecting on his relationship with Donato.

The Christian symbolism of Amon’s story is very present here too, because the cross is symbolic of the Christian message: accepting that humanity is all sinners, that we all have messed up and fallen short of God’s standards, and choosing to live anyways. That’s why I liked that Amon stopped Donato with a cross, and with an admission that he loved him. Because again with the Christian symbolism, God is love (that’s a Bible verse), and also there’s another verse where Jesus says that it would be better for people who hurt children to have a millstone being tied around their neck and thrown into the bottom of the sea. Donato is someone who immediately comes to mind with that verse, and I liked that Amon is kind of being Jesus in this scenario and saying No, Stop, and stopping him with the cross.

My one complaint is that while we are getting the right
development, I’m -__- because the development is being told to us rather
than shown though, & that’s just not how character development
works in best writing. I feel like Ishida is cramming for 204-06 chapters but w/e. At least we’re getting that development. But anyways. Back to what I loved.

I think this dampens the idea of Uta being the Nagaraj too, because I just can’t see what that would offer Uta’s character at this point, after this chapter. And as you all know Uta is 3rd on my list of preferences anyways, and him not being the Nagaraj probably helps his chances of survival so I’m happy. Itori is my first preference but that panel in 150 (or 151??) makes Itori unlikely, and my second choice is the only character left I can see it still making sense for them being the Nagaraj in terms of their character arcs: Donato.

Oh look, is that… one eye I see?

Hi! I was re reading the previous chapter of TG (169), and I noticed that when Donato approaches Amon, his face/ faces were similar to the classic theater masks, so I wanted to know your thought about it. Ps: your theories give me life, I swear I love them.

Ahh thank you so much!

And yep! I’ve seen a few others point this out but can’t recall whom. It wouldn’t shock me if it was deliberate because the clowns are of course associated with theater–they’re kiiind of a chorus who occasionally get involved. Occasionally. Like now, when people they care about are involved because none of them are as nihilistic as they pretend to be. Choruses in Greek tragedies are of course a group of people who comment and narrate sometimes the tragedy that’s unfolding on the stage–however, Ishida seems to be pointing out that no one can separate themselves enough from the conflict to be a true chorus. Like it or not, they’re connected, and if they’re not they die (Roma). Donato’s connected to Amon, Nico tries to heal people, and Itori and Uta are friends of Yomo’s.

You know, I want that Yomo had kakuja, but he don’t use it, because he knows that there wouldn’t anything good from it. Ishida many times shown us that strength and kakuja gives you nothing and even do all worse. And I want that there was character who’ll say this straight, for battle shounen audience. If he’ll do this, he will be my favourite character

YES. Tbh it is implied I believe that Yomo did cannibalize so I presume he does have one. But if he’s deliberately choosing not to use it, well, I think that’s in-character for Yomo personally, and would again make him Best Boy.

Uta: but I wanna see it

Yomo: no

Uta: I’m breaking up with you then you’re no fun

Hi sorry about your theory on shirazu with the scene when uta is asking if he likes girls can I straight up ask what your alluding to because I feel dumb that I’m not getting it and I checked the tags but still nothing, is it asexuality?

No haha it’s fine! There is a fourth wise monkey sometimes actually named shizaru (not subtle). Shizaru is for “do not evil” and as the other monkeys are shown covering their mouth, eyes, and ears, Shizaru is often shown either crossing his arms or covering his genitals–it’s the latter that I found interesting considering Uta asking him about his romantic life.

Not to come off as huge complainer but there was one thing I really disliked in this chapter if it was case. Yomo having kakuja mask when electrocuting Uta. Hopefully it was just bad scan but I am not fan of this if it wasn’t. Yomo never displayed kakuja against Arima in past or Arima again when Touka’s and his life depended on it. Him having it now just for convenience sake of appearing more ‘badass’ is thing I’m not fan of as I don’t like things done just out of convenience, out of nowhere.

I don’t know! So far I’m inclined to think it is not a mask.

But if he did grow one it would be interesting that his mask comes on as Uta’s comes off.

Which in turn is interesting also because masks hide ones face, and let;s be real: Yomo’s deceiving himself if he thinks violence is going to solve this. Yomo already knows this though, I believe, when he kept saying “I don’t understand.” They need to understand each other.

About uta and the qs i just want to point out how he basically foreshadowed the qs four monkeys in ch 38. When they sit in his store to take measuremants he grabs uries mouth (speak no evil), he touched mutsuki on the eye area and measured around his head(see no evil) and also around saikos ears(hear no evil). Basically he pointed out their flaws lol ishida is really something.

….

wtf Ishida.

It should also be noted (though this could be a stretch) that Uta’s conveniently asking Shirazu about any girls, and Shizaru the “do no evil” monkey is often seen crossing his arms or covering his genitals.

How’d you think, may Donato and Uta die in this chapters? I just thinking that before they’ll die Uta must face with Mutsuki and Donato with Urie. Uta 2 times played with Mutsuki and Donato forced Urie to frame out with 2 kakugans because of his father, so atleast conflict between Donato and Urie should be resolved.

I actually really doubt Uta is going to die at all! I think he’s definitely living through this fight, and see no reason for him to die at all, but we’ll see what revelations we have about Uta in coming chapters. Uta and Yomo are yin to each other’s yang; whether or not Ishida wants to confirm something romantic between them (let’s just say the last chapter wasn’t remotely subtle with Yomo penetrating Uta through that tower and then shocking him) I cannot see him dying, especially not like this. They need to understand each other.

Donato, on the other hand… I think he’s a dead man walking. The how is the question; whether Amon will kill him thanks to Takizawa’s encouragement or if he’ll sacrifice himself for Amon, I don’t know.

I am uncertain on whether Uta needs to face Mutsuki necessarily because he also played with Kaneki (Mutsuki was a Kaneki stand-in for Uta), and I’m similarly not sure about Donato facing Urie. Urie was only ever an Amon stand-in for Donato: everything Donato told Urie was what he wanted to tell Amon. You hate your father. You don’t feel like you have a family and are lost because of it.

But what is interesting is the ties they have to each other. @sentrakk wrote about this a bit, but Mutsuki is tied to Yomo having fought him and to Uta, as you mention, and Urie is tied to Donato and has fought Amon before as well. Considering the theories that we might be getting some development for the two of them soon enough (can you say Shirazombie?) So whether or not they confront each other I can see these two fights tying into Mutsuki’s and Urie’s developments individually and as a couple somehow.
