Me evilly awaiting Ui’s pain and drafting theories about ET being Hairu all week:

Me seeing Ishida’s new 0 Squad art:

Me seeing that Ui’s arm is lined again:

Me upon seeing it pointed out that ET is indeed scrawled on Hairu’s back in the new illustration:

And that means she probably was calling out Ui’s name in the latest chapter…

Welp.

don’t troll me ishida

but also when i said i wanted hairu back

i didn’t quite mean like this

i’m in pain

I agree abt that scene with Karren being relevant exactly because she says it was as if she lost consciousness for a second, so in other words we have access to her thoughts on the event and it was especially to draw our attention to it, so it will be weird if it turns out not being relevant at all. The Rose arc had a lot of zombies’ foreshadowing and a lot of the interrogatives opened by ch like K and Noro were dropped bcs they died so it makes sense for them to be answered in an arc which con

has zombies in it and characters whose arcs have been cut short in the
rose arc brought back in the story. I hope the corpse’s head regenerates
and shocks all the other characters. Also it’s fun how the zombie
embodies two of the strongest (and most important) clowns motifs:
Donato’s cross and Uta’s no face. The cross is a symbol of christianity
whose morale is horribly distorted by Donato and is also a symbol of
resurrection. Donato uses Christian imagery to mock his victims like
when he cont

crucified Urie (I actually wanna more elaboration on Donato and
Christianity, it would be so interesting how he subverts the religion
main teachings). Uta being no face is used by Uta himself to become who
Others want and fear him to be. In a sense Uta too brings back others’
loved ones and they are loved ones they wish to see, but aren’t truly
able to confront and this is the sense of this arc, so having a zombie
with no face obtaining a face makes sense! Meta anon

Yeah, I think it has to… or else how will they realize it’s Hairu? If it is Hairu, and tbh, at this point Hairu is by far the most satisfying narrative answer with the intense Ui focus combined with the fact that this would be an intense inverse of when we first met Hairu when she checked on Ui after his battle with Owl/Eto and called him Koori, the only character who does so.

And I agree that I’d like to see the Donato-Christianity motif delved into a bit more. Perhaps we will when we get to Amon vs. Donato (+ Takizawa, as Amon’s probably only going to be able to win when Takizawa brings back that cross, how fitting) which should be soon-ish I think. And we also need that Yomo-Uta confrontation, because Yomo’s the only person Uta doesn’t really seem to play with.

I’m curious, is it possible for a ghoul to fully regenerate a head from scratch? We’ve never seen that before except for the rare exception of Uta.. who is a special case entirely.

We actually have seen it happen once and in a circumstance that is almost certainly relevant!

We saw it happen with Karren after having been implanted with Eto’s kagune and having taken on Noro-like powers as a result. Seeing as Noro was almost certainly dead and revived somehow, and if that’s Hairu (or Eto) she clearly has either … Eto or Yoshimura’s kakuhou…

Yeah, I think it’s distinctly possible and relevant.

Hmm, am I crazy or is that an 8 on presumably Eto’s body?

Following up from my last ask, I meant it looks like there’s an 8 on the cross. Does that correlate to Eto somehow? Or maybe Hairu? 8th tarot is strength if I recall correctly.

I’m not sure, but it could be!

And it would correlate to both of them actually! I think it’s a commentary on the monster, and 8 as been associated with Arima before as well–which again, both Hairu and Eto are associated with.

Also the ninth circle of Hell is divided into 3 layers: traitors against the family, traitors against the country and traitors against God. Kanae broke the promise she did to her family, Arima betrayed the CCG (“country”) and Hairu couldn’t maintain her promise to become as strong as Arima (God). It’s all a bit of a stretch, but it’s still an interesting motif. If it’s Et I wonder why she was beheaded and tbh her lacking a head is what makes me opt for H right now. I wonder if the head will cont

grow back. It would be nice to see everyone’s reaction if Hairu/Kanae’s face were to appear where they were expecting to see Eto’s one. Tbh I wonder if after all this discussing “she” won’t turn out to be someone completely different XD even if I don’t have any other ideas. Meta Anon

Oh wow that’s super interesting… I love how you’re connecting it!

ichigeaux:

Much first thought is that kakuja is eto because it’s owl like appearance and the bandages seemingly wrapped around the torso.

However, let’s discuss how the owl like appearance is forced. The mask appears to be stitched onto the kakuja and blood is leaking from it. On top of that, once decapitated, main body is a corpse with the head being a stake of sorts.

If it were eto, there would be no need for a stitched mask as when she last appeared she head and shoulders were still attached. And let’s be honest, if it were eto what would that actually serve to the plot as we’re entering to the judgement phase(AT THIS POINT AND TIME).

There are two women that would plummet us right into the arc and that would be Karren and Hairu.

Who are fighting the kakuja right now? Tsukiyama and Ui, who just so happen to be very emotionally distraught characters that arent coping very well atm.

There forms the question: can zombies have kagunes implanted into them?

I’m 99.9% sure that can and is happening to force everyone to face their sins.

I don’t think Shuu has literally forgotten about matsumae and Karren, in fact it’s the exact opposite. He’s in a weird state of regression but he’s not completely like his old self. His old self took action, his old self was thoughtless but still spoke his mind.

After gaining some humanity.. Some humility and some friends via Kaneki, things have taken a turn for better and worse. The current him is internalizing the deaths of Karren, matsumae and probably even the state of his family. He’s channeling his anger and frustration into violence thus why he’s saying he wants to eat Kaneki again. He doesn’t want to eat Kaneki anymore.. Probably what he wants to do is give him a piece of his mind and possibly

slap the shit—

This is bad BUT these are natural human flaws that everyone needs to learn how to deal with.

——

Ui’s sin is turning a blind eye, silence and cooperating with Furuta under the guise of duty(protecring his own) and the possibility that Hairu being brought back to life. Well, you got your wish Ui, is this the reality that you wanted?

I wonder how Arima’s plans would’ve gone had he told Ui about them. Would children even be sacrificed at all? The entirely of Arima exists in ambiguity to most, even to those who are closest to him. Like Kaneki, everyone projected on and idolized him instead of seeing his flaws for what they were. I think Ui wouldve been the perfect person for Arima to rely on because I think they counterbalanced each other. While Arima is physically strong he lacks in all other areas. The reason why no one in his squad can see his vision is because Arima couldn’t see that far ahead himself. Ui would’ve forced him to THINK more tangibly, and the thoughtless essentially would’ve been called out.

“oh maybe I’ll yell at him later.”

“what’s in the past is in the past because there’s nothing we can do about it now.”

The thing about consequences is that you can control when and where they happen.

@hamliet THOUGHTS?

I agree with these thoughts and think they’re very well articulated. This is a consequence of Arima’s suicide, tbh, in some ways, and of everybody’s failure to communicate with each other no matter who it is.

The title being called Et other than a clear hint at the identity of the monster (which could be or not a red herring) reminded me of Noro: Noro through his flashback explained the meaning of Et’s name to be “to be loved” or something similar. What’s more, the way this battle played out resembles the one btw the Qxs and Noro. They followed a specific plan and managed to take Noro down only to be overpowered by a great number of kagune tendrils. This can all be a part of the build up for Sh’s con

return. At the same time if the person without head is Et I think the
situation is kinda karmic since she used her kagune to revive Noro and
now she’s stuck in the same position as him. Or it could simply be a way
to draw a further parallelism btw this monster and Noro in the sense
that both are zombies revived through Et’s kagune (and again the title
of the chapter would be explained) in this case she’s probably Hairu
(and my preferred choice). Meta anon

Thank you Meta Anon! I think this is an excellent meta and way of looking at it. I think Eto or Hairu could work (prefer the latter but if it’s Eto, which seems more likely at the moment, I think Hairu will return this volume anyways).

All I can imagine if amon decided to fight now is him going kakuja, it’s all epic and dramatic, but once he faces the big owl he just.. gets swatted into a wall and that’s it, the end. There’s no more he just disappears into the void

Naw. I do think it’d be great if he was their best hope at defeating the Owl but he can’t bring himself to fight like a ghoul so Takizawa shows up to assist, as a knight and as the hero, and they bring Owl down together.
