Hello hello! And probably it was a joke. @randomthoughtpatterns explains here the cultural context behind it.
(It’s a fair question though, because in TG a line could just as easily be a line as it could be, like, foretelling the future of the characters’ next three generations, but in this case I do think it was just a joke. We shall see.)
I would not mind that in the slightest; I was actually slightly disappointed we didn’t see Mutsuki realizing that the Oggai are gone just yet. It’s possible they are headed deeper into the ward; we really don’t know which direction they’re headed, but seeing as it seemed like everyone was regrouping, I just assumed it was the surface, but it could easily not be. Mutsuki may not be entirely aware the raid is even over; we don’t know how conscious or not he and Aura were during the Dragon eruption. That’s also partially why I hope Hajime survives, but with injuries: he can provide a much-needed reality check for Mutsuki, Juuzou, Amon, and Kaneki. Basically the kid’s got a lot of potential, Ishida please.
Yeah, Urie and Saiko haven’t really tried very hard because they’re falling prey to their own flaws (keeping his mouth shut, sleeping/handing over her agency). Urie does seem to have made some progress though, so there’s hope he’d be able to speak now. Saiko, on the other hand, I agree is not quite there yet.
Pffft, Mucchan was clearly wrong about emotions helping him overcome Yomo, but clearly they helped him overcome death itself so, not bad, Mucchan, not bad.
But in all seriousness, no, I don’t think they’re going to encounter Yomo and Uta again, or any of the ghouls in the 24th ward. I think all of the ghouls and Yomo and Uta are probably gone by now. The impression I got from this chapter–it seems to be set at around dawn (fitting symbolically, sun arc please?)–is that several hours have passed. Yoriko says it here that it shook all night:
And Touka, Hina, Miza, and the other Aogiri ghouls got away in the meantime and made it to the forest to meet up with Nishiki and Banjou. I don’t think there’s a reason Yomo and Uta would still be hanging around there. I do think that there will be another Uta-Mutsuki encounter at some point, but I don’t see the point in Yomo vs. Mutsuki and Aura round 2 so quickly after the climax of their fight a few chapters ago, and the climax of the raid producing Dragon. My guess is Uta’s unfinished business with Mutsuki will be dealt with later (I’m getting increasingly suspicious of Uta), but the next few chapters will focus on characters including Mutsuki and Aura realizing who Dragon is, and the build-up for the plan to stop Dragoneki, not on another fight so soon.
My guess is Mutsuki and Aura will head up to the surface and maybe to the CCG, but either way, they’ll be faced with the horrifying reality that is Dragoneki. My guess is this is not going to in any way slow Aura’s desire to kill Kaneki; it will only amplify it. On the contrast, I think Mutsuki, even though this will likely help break his obsession with Kaneki and he has been foreshadowed, along with Urie and Saiko, to have a role in taking down Dragon, will not so easily want to kill Kaneki, since I don’t think he ever wanted truly to do that in the first place. He told Urie he did not want Kaneki killed:
And he told Aura he wanted to kill Kaneki, but during the raid was only thinking of how much he loved Sensei and how that love would help him win against Yomo:
Judging from this, and from the fact that Mutsuki and Urie have a far longer rapport with one another than Mutsuki and Aura, I think Mutsuki is lying to Aura. Thus their relationship might fracture at some point. I do wonder if any conflict between them and/or disagreement among the Quinx over how to handle Dragoneki is somehow tied to that foreshadowing in that omake about hulked-out Urie fighting hulked-out Aura…
It doesn’t necessarily mean he’s truly dead; we haven’t seen what happened to Suzuya or Hanbee or the rest of his squad yet, so there’s a chance we’ll return to the 24th ward to see them and possibly Hajime.
If Mutsuki and Aura can survive that you can survive a kagune to the head, Hajime.
This chapter does seem to indicate that Naki is truly dead, though. 😦
I wonder too. Though I personally think Dragoneki will help break several characters’ obsessions with Kaneki:
Hinami’s:
Tsukiyama’s:
Mutsuki’s:
I know Tsukiyama is screaming and desperate to save Kaneki, and Hinami is devastated, and I would think Mutsuki’s reaction to finding out Sensei is the monster will probably be similar. So will Saiko’s, tbh. Personally, while it looks like Tsuiyama’s still quite obsessed her, I’m happy to see emotional Tsukiyama again; calm and repressed Tsukiyama was worrisome and when he’s acknowledging his feelings like here, there’s a more of a chance for growth.
But I’ve said before that I really, truly don’t know if Mutsuki and Saiko will ever get to the point where they are willing to kill Dragoneki. Obsession breaking might not mean that they (meaning Hina, Shuu, and Mucchan) want to kill him, especially because obsession with Kaneki looked pretty much like wanting to kill him or at least those around him for Mutsuki, lol. Dragoneki might reinforce tor Mutsuki that Sasaki isn’t coming back to that house, not ever. If it was impossible before it’s hella impossible now–but Urie and Saiko will still be there for him. It might be a process though, and Urie might need to do what Chie is currently doing for Tsukiyama: providing a reality check.
I think the person who will still accept Kaneki after this–but clearly not without difficulty either–is Touka.
It’s been a glorious chapter. All the Quinx are fine. (Except Shirazu.)
Yeah, I’m hoping we get Mutsuki’s reaction–and the rest of the Quinxes’ reactions–to finding out that “thing” they’re discussing is Kaneki, because Urie and Saiko definitely don’t know that right now, and I doubt Mutsuki does either considering he was unconscious. My guess is Ui and Hirako are likely to tell them, or possibly Hide if he knows.
Hinami is okay! Ish. She’s crying. I’m crying. Crying Hina=wrong.
Kaneki you’re upsetting your wife i know she said you needed to put on muscle but that was like years ago and this is a bit of overkill, dontcha think?
Nishiki has more faith in Kaneki as his friend than anyone else at this point 😦
