@hamliet great! 😀 I know a lot of people use this as evidence for a lot of theories, but to me it’s always sounded like Maz telling Rey to leave the past behind completely, to stop waiting and start acting
That’s how I interpreted it too. I think they have Rey say “Luke” not as a red herring, but to reinforce that Maz is indeed talking about Luke and not Kylo or Finn. Maybe the line can take on more significance later on when/if Kylo does come back, but in TFA, Maz seems to clearly be talking about Luke, and specifically encouraging Rey to give up being the one always waiting, and become the one who brings someone back.
