Ahhh thank you!! I am glad you like them! My first fanfics were for Reylo and it is still my OTP. Yes, I absolutely would and probably will write more for them at some point, maybe as the hype starts around episode IX!

What did Marvel do???
Hoo boy. Sooooo here’s the twitter account.
The short version, from what I understand, is there is an author of several of their Star Wars comics named Chuck Wendig. I’ve read some of his novels. He posts political commentary sometimes, because it’s his personal twitter. He also made a habit of explicitly including LGBT characters in his Star Wars canon novels. Which is awesome. Unfortunately that attracted trolls who targeted him for his inclusion of a bisexual woman among other LGBT characters and his left-leaning political views. He told a couple trolls off using some swears, so Marvel fired him ostensibly for using profanity in his tweets.
The issue is that 1) this behavior of his is not new, so Marvel didn’t care until alt-right people brought it up to them, 2) this is now a pattern of Marvel caving to alt-right people, which is. Not. Cool. Especially given that Marvel’s history with representation is shameful. Also 3) Marvel has other writers who legitimately target people who say they don’t like their things. All in all it’s not a good look for Marvel.
It’s also an issue because he was defending himself. Could he have been more professional? Yeah. Did he have to be? Honestly given what he was responding to, I don’t think he’s morally under an obligation to do so. I think there’s an attitude in our culture that glorifies being passive instead of being assertive, and I honestly don’t think he was being aggressive because he didn’t go after anyone from what I know; he simply responded to people tweeting shitty things at him. I think when someone attacks you, you have the right to tell them to stop it. And to be clear: we aren’t just talking rude comments to someone on twitter, but doxxing attempts and other threats that have according to him have the police involved, and he has a kid. If someone was attempting to doxx me and I had a kid, being civil wouldn’t necessarily be a priority.
So anyways, Marvel, come on.
Star Wars?
- Character I first fell in love with: Leia Organa!
- Character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Jyn Erso. Actually the entire Rogue One cast.
- Character everyone loves but I don’t: I love Anakin, so this doesn’t exactly apply, but I think people have a giant double standard when it comes to Darth Vader vs Kylo Ren.
- Character I love but everyone else hates: Kylo Ren gets a lot of both love and hate, but imo he’s the best written character in the sequel trilogy even if not my actual favorite (that’s Finn).
- Character I used to love but don’t any longer: No one really? I think I used to be more interested in Phasma but now I couldn’t care less.
- Character I would kiss: Finn.
- Character I want to slap (some sense into): Kylo Ren.
- A pairing I love: REYLO
- A pairing I hate: Kylo/Hux
You mentioned SW wasn’t planned at the beginning, how so lol? It was kind of weird that they started with 4-6 first before doing 1-3 so I kind of get what you’re saying. Also, if TG does get a Star Wars esque sequel where we get an all new cast and etc with the old cast in the background or as cameos, what do you think would happen in the story? What elements and countries would you like focused on? I wonder what Ishida could structure the story on, instead of tarot to develop the characters?
Omg yes Lucas literally wrote the first Star Wars as a standalone. No one expected it to do so well. Then he wrote like 12 episodes. Vader was likely not initially his father and Luke did have a twin but she lived on the other side of the galaxy but during ROTJ Lucas was burned out due to personal issues and made Leia Luke’s twin because he wanted to end it there. That is why we have their infamous kiss–they weren’t supposed to be twins lol!
The next two trilogies I do believe have been planned out, or from what I’ve heard about the sequel trilogy, they have some broad endgame idea in mind so. That’s good haha. I don’t want more incest😂
I honestly don’t know!! I’d be fine with anything Ishida wanted to do.
Did you watch the Solo trailer?? It looks really great. I can’t wait to see how Han and Chewie meet and just Lando awesomeness.
I DID. DONALD GLOVER DONALD GLOVER DONALD GLOVER (I have a slight crush on the man ngl).
I’m excited to see Qi’ra too (I suspect/want her to be the villain). And Alden Ehrenreich seemed decent as Han, though obviously he’s not Harrison.
Good evening senpai 😂, what’s your favorite Star Wars movie out of the bunch and which one do you dislike most? I can’t stomach 4-6 period because of the old animation so I hope they get remade at some point in time. 3 is probably my favorite though, Anakin’s descent into the dark side out of love for his wife is always nice, that battle on Mustafar gets me every time.
Oooooh! So I genuinely like all the movies, but if I had to rank, from least fave to fave, it’d look like this:
9) The Phantom Menace. It’s okay, but pretty dull and Jar-Jar Binks is cute for kids but grating for adults. The appeal of most SW movies is that it appeals to both kids and adults.
8) Attack of the Clones. It’s exciting, unlike TPM, but it’s got some real cringers of lines: “I hate sand. It’s coarse, rough, irritating… not like you.” The acting is wooden because the dialogue is so terrible. Because when you think about it what Anakin’s saying is actually quite interesting, considering he was raised on a desert planet as a slave, so the hatred probably ties back to that… but it’s not developed. Sigh. But I love the arena fight with Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Padmé.
7) Revenge of the Sith. I really really like this film a lot, but I’m bitter about how Padmé is treated as just choosing to die from a broken heart. It seemed OOC for her. But yeah, the battle on Mustafar gets me every time. Obi-Wan’s heartbreak is so palpable, and you can really see how the Jedi created their own downfall.
6) A New Hope. It’s good and fun and I like it a lot, but Luke was meh for me as a character in this one.
5) The Force Awakens. Yes, I know it’s kind of a remake of ANH, but it works better from a story perspective than ANH did because the emotional stakes are much, much higher, even if you hadn’t seen ANH. The fact that you know the villain is one of the hero’s sons is emotionally compelling, whereas in ANH you don’t know Luke is Vader’s kid.
4) The Empire Strikes Back. Technically this is one of the better films, but this ranking isn’t according to what I consider the best written XD The Vader reveal is great, Leia is great, Lando is an awesome addition, I love you, I know, ahhhh.
3) Rogue One. Technically one of the most poorly written and put together of the saga. I don’t care. I loved the moral complexity and the battle scene at the end is by far the best battle ever in Star Wars. It’s heartbreaking and tragic and the Rebellion is good but also bad. I also really liked Cassian, Jyn, and Baze and Chirrut. The novel, btw, does a far better job at adapting the story than the film does–the first half of the film is extremely choppy and poorly paced, but the novelization of the film fixes this and adds depth to every character. It’s the only case wherein I will ever say the novel adaptation is better than the film.
2) Return of the Jedi. Yeah, the Ewoks are pointless and the plot isn’t as well done as ANH or ESB, but thematically it’s the best of the bunch. And I honestly never, ever though Vader was getting a redemption. I literally watched the films knowing Leia was Luke’s sister and they were Vader’s kids, but didn’t know Vader got redeemed, and I cried and cried. I love that. I usually hate redemption by death, but I love that in the end Anakin could not let the Emperor kill his son.
1) The Last Jedi. Damn. This film. For all the backlash from whiny fanboys, I loved this film and the more I think about it the more I like it. It’s emotionally complex, not remotely subtle in its use of yonic symbolism and the female gaze (fitting for a female protagonist), and it has a deeply important message/theme: that failure is not the end. That you can always get back up. That no one is truly gone. That love can’t save you, but you can save yourself. That no one is perfect. That there are things worth sacrificing for. Luke’s ending was perfect, I thought, and the twist wherein he tried to kill Ben is completely in-character given that he almost killed Vader in ROTJ. I also loved the Reylo content, obviously, it’s been my ship since TFA when it was strongly hinted. Also anyone who thinks Ben isn’t getting redeemed: lulz, Luke literally basically said he was. Rose was the heart of the film, and anyone who thinks her character is useless can fight me lol. Poe got a great arc as opposed to no arc in TFA, Amilyn Holdo was awesome (seriously, how amazing were the women in this film? It’s the most balanced SW film I think in terms of female and male characters), and Finn… Finn had my favorite arc in the film. He’s learning to expand his caring about the world from Rey to the whole Resistance now. Finn is the character I love most.
:OOOOOOOOOOOOOO Are you reading Star Wars fanfics? I’ve only watched the new movie 3 times until now and I am hungry for fanfics. I really trust your opinion, so I was wondering if you have some really good fanfic to share about the new trilogy.
Hello fellow SW fan!! So I haven’t read any post-TLJ fics yet, though I will be soon enough.
I actually wrote a few (okay more than a few) fanfics post-TFA though! They’re all basically Reylo and Finnpoe. I’ll be writing more fic post-TLJ, like I’m plotting one out because I want to write more for Finn (he’s my fave) and for Rose too, and of course for Rey and Kylo and Poe as well. I’ll probably start posting after New Year’s. That link will give you all of them, but for my specific recommendations:
Boarded Up is the fic I’m most proud of, but please note it comes with extremely heavy trigger warnings. It’s an AU.
Schism was the most fun I had writing a fic, though the plot’s a little overdone. It’s also an AU.
Ghosts is a fun canon-verse fic!
The Wheels Keep Right On Rolling by @nerdherderette
The Down and Outs by Rellie and Anonymous Mink
If anyone has other recommendations, please chime in for anon!
(Spoiler “The Las Jedi”) What is the problem with Kylo dying in his possible redemption for you? I mean, the impression that some people are taking because of the events of the new films and some interviews is that they are wanting to end with the Skywalkers in this trilogy to explore other stories with more movies. Luke is dead, Kylo and Leia are the last members of the family who are still alive, so I think that Leia will die and Kylo, independently to achieve his redemption or not, too.
Well, considering episode IX is not yet written and numerous interviews have shown that Disney does not have a plan for IX, people should be wary of interpreting interviews as saying something like that. But yes, I agree the new films look like they could be heading that way.
The short version is that it’s personal preference. Anything I say below is my opinion, not objective fact, so please take it with a grain of salt. It’s fine if you like the trope of redemptive death!
I said in my reactions post that I would rather a story “give me them antagonists who have to suffer to earn redemption and live knowing that many will never forgive them, but have to earn it every day, prove that they’re really repentant.” I think redemptive death is a cheap cop-out a lot of the time–but to be clear, this is only my opinion and is in no way an objective fact! It’s fine if people like that trope. I just don’t–or, at least, I think it’s overused.
See, Star Wars is about hope at its core. That’s why I love it so much. It’s a fairytale about hope. And so people who have done terrible things in life–what hope can they take from the message in every fictional media that the only option is for them to sacrifice their lives for redemption? (To be clear, I infinitely prefer redemptive death over no redemption; that’s not even a question.) Is the message that by doing bad things, your life becomes not worth living? Having worked with kids and with people who have done some very bad things, like prison-worthy things, I don’t like that message–or at least, I’m tired of it.
There’s also the fact that killing off the Skywalkers forever isn’t a great marketing move, so that does give me hope. But either way, TLJ was so good that I’m optimistic for a great story in IX, even if I may not like all of it.
(SPOILER THE LAST JEDI) I don’t know if you’re going to answer something about the movie, but I’ll send it anyway. I read the post about your opinion and respect it, but it does not bother you when Kylo say to Rey “You came from nothing, you’re nothing”. I mean, this don’t sound abusive to you? He’s trying to manipulate her here, don’t seem that he really cares about her. Besides that in the end he was literally trying to kill her. There’s no way they can get together at the end after this.
I do answer asks about the film!
I mean, idk. Does what Mr. Darcy says to Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice sound abusive to you?

Mr. Darcy: Miss Elizabeth. I have struggled in vain and can bear it no longer. These past months have been a torment. I came to Rosings only to see you. I have fought against judgement, my family’s expectation, inferiority of your birth, my rank. I will put them aside and ask you to end my agony.
Elizabeth Bennet: I don’t understand.
Mr. Darcy: I love you. Most ardently. Please do me the honor of accepting my hand.
Elizabeth Bennet: Sir, I appreciate the struggle you have been through, and I am very sorry to have caused you pain. It was unconsciously done.
Mr. Darcy: Is this your reply?
Elizabeth Bennet: Yes, sir.
Mr. Darcy: Are you… Are you laughing at me?
Elizabeth Bennet: No.
Mr. Darcy: Are you rejecting me?
Elizabeth Bennet: I’m sure that the feelings which, as you’ve told me have hindered your regard, will help you in overcoming it.
Mr. Darcy: Might I ask why, with so little endeavor at civility, I am thus repulsed?
Elizabeth Bennet: And I might as well inquire why, with so evident a design of insulting me, you chose to tell me that you liked me against your better judgment. If I was uncivil, then that is some excuse. But I have other reasons, you know I have.
Kylo Ren is not so subtly coded as a Byronic hero, and in true Byronic romance novel fashion, he makes a proposal (which yes was a marriage proposal) that Rey (rightfully!) rejects. Go Rey. But what he says to Rey is exactly what Darcy says to Elizabeth. Exactly. You’re nobody, I’m somebody, but I love you so let’s get married. And Rey, just like Lizzy, says hell no you bastard. But Byronic romances don’t tend to continue to stay that way.
One of my pet peeves about tumblr is that people on it misuse the word abuse. And if you’re going to use that word you better be damn sure it actually applies, and I’m saying this as an abuse survivor, and that is something I would rather not discuss further or frankly have disclosed at all. Look, I get that that can trigger some people, and I cannot fault them for that. If this line reminds you of something an abuser said, I’m genuinely sorry someone said that to you and that was so wrong of them. You don’t have to like Kylo Ren or Reylo and there is nothing wrong with not liking either of them. But just because something triggers you does not mean that it was the filmmakers’ intent. The context is not the same, unless you too were a person with a Force Bond who just fought for your lives together but have also hurt each other in the past . Rey does not stay with him, being like well, I guess I am nobody, let’s stay. She very clearly tells him what he said is unacceptable. Which, to be clear: it absolutely was.
Also, at the end of the film? Kylo is engaged in a frankly embarrassing temper tantrum. I don’t believe he meant much of what he said and Luke even calls him on that, telling him Luke was not the last Jedi and he’d see him around. Context. Matters.
Look, I said in my review that I am not sure the odds of Kylo surviving the trilogy look great. But yes, I do expect them to “get together” in some fashion even if it’s not, like, riding happily into the sunset. Their characters are inextricably intertwined. But even if they don’t? That doesn’t make this abusive. Being wrong and mean is not necessarily equivalent to domestic abuse.
(Anon, I’m sorry if I sound really harsh. But misusing the term ‘abuse’ is one of my pet peeves because it is a personal issue for me, and it isn’t one I want to discuss further.)
