I don’t know–I personally interpret 108 as more found family, like Eren does love all the SC, as it focuses on all of them. This cover’s definitely more shippy, though, but it’s also worth noting the happiness shared by all three of them, a happiness that could have been but isn’t.
Well, yes, absolutely, though that’s not all of it. Eren is acting as he is to save all his friends, and the idea that Historia would be forced to breed children is absolutely a part of that. The problem is it’s not working. Historia is pregnant and miserable anyways. Sasha is dead. Mikasa and Armin just almost got blown up–and it’s all because of his poor choices.
I guess I mean being saved from himself–he’s clearly making some very destructive choices. Killing kids, becoming the monsters he swore to destroy in attacking innocents, making choices that led to Sasha’s death (and will lead to more deaths of his loved ones probably), pushing Armin and Mikasa away, etc. He’s on a path that will absolutely kill him (even without the lifespan limit), but he’s still motivated by being desperate to protect Historia from making the same mistake Grisha made (having a child to use as a tool, like twice)–but he isn’t even succeeding in that. His current path is not leading towards victory, so by saved I mean not survival, but deviating from his path. I don’t think he will deviate from self-destruction beyond a realization, but that realization is enough for me.
I do! I think Falco constantly chasing Gabi to his own detriment is definitely a parallel to Mikasa. I also think Falco parallels Armin (intelligence over brawn), Jean (morality), and Historia as well (wanting to die for a loved one).
That’s an interesting question. I have no idea. I also prefer Petruo and don’t ship Rivetra (it’s cute though, so awesome if you do!) But I really wonder. The anime also played up LeviHan in the first season as well if I remember correctly? Maybe they were just going to maximum Levi appeal. 😛
I think a monthly manga lends itself to pacing issues naturally to an extent, but I also think part of the slow pacing with the flashbacks that didn’t offer new information might have been Isayama wanting to set up chapter 100 to be that chapter lol. In other words, I think a lot of the flashbacks weren’t necessary or could have been incorporated to Shiganshina–we could have learned about Reiner and Bertolt’s friendship, etc. before Bertolt got killed, which would have made his death more impactful. I am very, very interested to see how the anime is going to handle the Marlay Arc in a likely season 4. in general they did a good job fixing the pacing of the Uprising, so I’m interested to see what they do with the Marlay.
