Hi! It seems like a large portion of the fandom seem convinced that Nicolo and Sasha were actually dating due to Kaya’s remark. Do you have any thoughts on that? I always enjoy reading your analyses! :)

*shrugs* there’s no way to know! Nicolo’s feelings absolutely seem to be romantic, but we have no idea about Sasha and won’t because she’s dead. They might very well have been.

Tbh, I think it’s a bit cheap writing-wise to shoehorn the romance element to add motivation for Nicolo’s actions last chapter, when what he said about her teaching him he could do good in the world with his cooking honestly would have sufficed given that someone in his position being mentally unstable would hardly be unusual, and that statement made me cry on its own. This is just my opinion though and is not a judgement on it, people are welcome to disagree! It just reminded me of Kaya trying to kill Gabi–didn’t seem quite necessary for the drama and themes of the scene, but w/e. Many people seem to like it, so that’s great!

A Child in a Gray Forest

aspoonofsugar:

I liked several things in the latest chapter.

Here I am going to mention only two.

1) This is how Gabi sees Sasha:

This is how Nikolo sees her:

Both have a very black and white vision. This is why Mr Braus’s prospective is so important:

Because it acknowledges both points of view. Sasha was a person who managed to overcome her fear in order to help people. She was also a soldier who took part in an operation which involved attacking civilians. It is meaningful that her father acknowledges this. Sasha was no devil nor angel, but a person who ended up caught up in a cycle of violence.

It is this specific prospective the characters must all come to accept and I liked how it was exemplified through three different points of view on the same character.

Great meta!

Hello! I share this series of paintings of some of the female characters of SNK, Disney style.
Personally, I do not usually identify with Disney stories, however, I can not deny that in terms of animation, character design, backgrounds, etc. are geniuses! and then, this idea came to me 🤔
I hope you like it.

Hello! What is your opinion about Sasha? (AOT) Do u think she has an arc? I think the way she was killed was… random. I almost cry, though. I love your posts!

aspoonofsugar:

Hello anon! I am happy you like my posts and thank you very much for this ask because I love Sasha!

I think she had an arc, but I also think she basically completed it in the chapter called I’m Home (36).

A
good way to analyze a character arc is to find the flaw the character
has to struggle with in order to grow. I think the narrative did a good
job at underlining Sasha’s flaw:

Sasha is a coward and so it makes sense that in order to grow she has to face her
fear and to overcome it. This is also why Sasha’s father insisted on
having her sign for the army.

if you ever felt that sasha was going to survive to tell the tale just remember that isayama originally planned to kill sasha just after annie’s defeat (when she went back to her hometown without 3D gear) and the way he did it shaked his editor so much he (cried for an hour and) convinced isayama to change that part (i guess that what i want to said is, i’m sorry editor-kun, you’ve been trolled)

:’’’’(

I think Sasha’s death will be meaningful in the end, and specifically it’s meaningful for Gabi. (I really want to write a Gabi thematic meta, because her character is just so rich in terms of what it offers the plot and themes and how Gabi and Falco’s very existence strongly points to a breakout of the tragic cycle, but that’s for later.) Remember as @aspoonofsugar pointed out to me, Reiner shared the potato story with Gabi, and Gabi and Falco are now bound for Paradis and there’s no way they will be killed. I hope Gabi learns that this was the potato girl, that this was a human, that this was a good woman who spared her life, even.

Isayama is so cruel…I was actually hoping most of the characters would live, but this new development doesn’t give me much hope in that regard. I’m preparing for future deaths now. ;_;

I’m so sorry. Yeah, ever since the 13 year thing was revealed I’ve been preparing for the worst, though like I said I do see Mikasa, Jean, Historia, Gabi, and Falco surviving, and maaaaaaaaybe Armin and Hange and a teeny chance for Annie. The latter three are long shots though.

It hurts though. Losing characters can be like losing friends, to be honest. Characters can really speak to your life and influence you to get better, can make your smile when you’re feeling down, etc. Stories are powerful and characters are a major part of what makes stories powerful. Losing them hurts. It’s okay to even cry and grieve for one, seriously. (“They’re not real” is a cheap argument. Fiction isn’t reality for sure, but it also is created within reality, so of course it isn’t entirely separate either. Stories help us process life.)

I am very sorry for those who are mourning Sasha’s death–Ymir’s death, for example, hit me like a punch in the stomach, and I know Bertolt’s death absolutely wrecked my sister. Despite my earlier post I do understand why people for whom Sasha had special meaning might dislike Gabi now, though I’m still going to complain about seeing Gabi hate (why do I always pick these characters).

Thoughts on Sasha Braus? She’s been my favourite character since her first appearance.

Potato girl is awesome. I loved her mini-arc in the Clash of the Titans Arc (that’s my fave arc in SnK!) But for real, I love how she’s what I call deep comic relief: her character is often comic relief, but she’s never a joke; she’s always more than that.

Sasha and Connie’s relationship is also pretty canon imo; though as Isayama prefers to leave things to the imagination we just know that they’re close but the implication in official art etc seems to be romantic to me. Honestly Sasha and Connie’s survivals could go either way and it entirely depends on how generous Isayama is feeling and how badly he wants to hurt us, as either could work narratively.

fuku-shuu:

Had a slow day at work yesterday, so I scanned the two exclusive posters that came with the SnK Escape from Certain Death Nintendo 3DS game Treasure Box Edition (Thanks to @girwants for the reminder a while back)! Enjoy 🙂 I don’t believe either of these have been distributed online in high quality before.

Haven’t scanned anything for a while since I only have access to a scanner at the office, but will try to do more in the future!

Note: I tried to make the watermark unobtrusive, but if any editors would still like to work with completely non-watermarked versions of the images, please feel free to message/ask me and I’m happy to provide! 😀
