Hi! I just want to ask what do you think about Shigaraki’s words to Overhaul in chapter 160. Do you think Overhaul deserved that treatment or not (I mean he needs to suffer) Also Shigaraki was pretty savage too lol. What do you think about him too? (chapter 160 is one of my favorite, the chase was pretty cool too. It was one of the ‘classical’ thing that villains do in movies. You know be cool and walking in front of an explosion. Also because sensei doesn’t give this type of moments to the them

Ahhh so, I think @linkspooky wrote a fantastic meta on that scene here. I agree with Link’s perspective, and also would say that that scene in 160 is one of my favorites in the entire manga as well. I can’t wait to see it animated, lol.

As for deserve… it was narratively karmic, but also terrifying and not good for Shigaraki’s development (well, narratively, good, in terms of boy get help, not good, if you get what I mean!)

can you do a post about overhaul and dabi i feel like there different but the same in many ways

Well, both of them have major problems with how hero society operates. The difference is that Chisaki is kind of “burn it all down” and thinks all quirks are awful inherently, whereas Dabi believes that heroes should actually be heroic in their personal lives as well as in their professional ones. Or, well, sort of. Because presuming Dabi is Touya, he’s a lot more personally motivated than he is ideologically. Chisaki, on the other hand, is pretty much purely ideological. Chisaki doesn’t care about other people, viewing them all as tools. Dabi does seem to have some kind of conscience. Ish.

Overhaul can be seen kind of as a mirror of what the LoV could be if they really were committed to ideology and not just a group of broken people without any semblance of a leader. The LoV truly hated Overhaul once he killed Magne. And Overhaul’s inability to make connections eventually leads to his complete downfall.

Overhaul 8? Really? 😮 Don’t take this the wrong way I’m in no way trying to say your opinion is bad. I’m just shocked. I thought Overhaul was one of the best fleshed out villains in the series along with Tomura. But he’s only 8 in your opinion? I’d be interested to hear your opinion on him! Also as to why you hate him. Is it because of the Eri stuff? Cos I admit all of that is horrible! But as a villain I still rank him highly regardless!

Haha no worries! I see what you mean.

I took the ask to mean “favorite villains” not “villains that are well done” and, well, “favorite” doesn’t equate to “well written” always for me! It’s kind of a grudging respect for Overhaul’s (as you say) fleshed-out well written villainy (like that’s how you write a good villain without any set up for or hints at redemption!) that gets him on the list, whereas people I like or find sympathetic were higher because that was how I was ranking lol.

If I was going to rank it by “villains I consider well done” I’d rank it like Dabi-Shigaraki-Overhaul-Twice-Stain for a top 5.

And yep, my grumpiness with him is related to Eri. 😦 I pretty strongly dislike any character who hurts a child. If they get redemption, great, but in general I won’t really like them. See: Endeavor. But seriously all my least faves from each of my favorite series are characters who go out of their way to hurt children (the Zoldycks and Ging from HxH, for example).
