Mucchy Anon!

Apologies for not posting your ask; last time I answered a similar question it led to a troll targeting me *rolls eyes*. Don’t feel bad about asking though; it’s a legitimate question.

I’m also happy to hear from people who love Mutsuki, as he’s still one of my favorite characters ever. I can’t not love him. Under the cut!

My explanation of said scene is here. I do not believe Mutsuki really wanted to harm Kaneki like that; I think he was having a psychological breakdown and I think he was vacillating between his anger at Kaneki for leaving him (and the anger he also had towards his mother and father for not treating him well was also being projected onto Kaneki, because Kaneki had been a “good dad” so to speak and then wasn’t) and his desperate desire to think that “if I’d only done x, they would come back.” There was also a deliberate parallel with Torso as well, to parallel Kaneki’s paralleling of Yamori in the first TG. Anyways, it all stemmed imo from a deep insecurity and a lack of self-worth that led to a fractured sense of self.

Mutsuki’s breakdown, imo, is one of the parts of TG that I think could have been really well done, but it kind of got dropped towards the end which was disappointing. Oh well. I still love him and am glad he survived his spiral.

What I feel: I love this character very much because they’ve helped me flex my creative muscle and extend my understanding of what makes a character enjoyable and unique, as well as giving me comfort during rough patches and allowing me to relate to them emotionally

What I say: hgngnhg son

The leakers don’t like Mutsuki? 154? 155? Did they also avoid him on these chapters? What if they actually like him and just wanted to surprise us with them?

Okay haha I don’t know. They did leak for those chapters because like, you kind of have to because those chapters are Mutsuki-centered. But it’s been a pattern where a lot of Mutsuki-focused scenes do not get leaked and it’s gone on for over a year now; hence why I said it feels that way. Tbh though we don’t have the right to complain; the fact that we get to see leaks at all is a privilege. All I’m saying is that just because the leaks don’t mention a Mutsuneki talk or Mutsurie does not mean to me that it isn’t in there, especially if Ayahina and Nakimiza are.

Why didn’t ishida include mutsuki in the saiko urie talk with kaneki? It’s just so… i liked haise and mutsukis relationship so much i wanted them to at least say their peace.I also wanted some mutsuki×touka talk… do you have any otters for me? TT

I wish we had them talking because they really need to, but it could be in the chapter since the leakers don’t really leak Mutsuki things if they can avoid it (look I’m mildly salty about that haha; 141? 147? Mutsuki & Urie’s talk? All important Mucchy moments? Nothing.) But I suppose if we don’t get a Mutsuneki chat, it thematically represents that Mutsuki’s relationship with Urie and the Qs is the way forward, not his relationship with Kaneki. (And probably happened off panel.) I actually don’t mind a whole lot; I’d rather have the focus (in these limited pages) be on Mutsuki’s relationship with the Qs and hopefully with Urie as well.

…WAIT HOLD ON THE ANIME NEVER REVEALED MUTSUKI’S SECRET

Me when they didn’t reveal it with the Torso scene in the beginning: Ahh, yay! So they’ll reveal it when Urie finds out, in a moment of safety! Maybe they’re trying to handle it sensitively!

Me now, realizing they most likely plan to reveal it when he’s being held captive by Torso:

You know mutsuki and urie are both the two characters in the qs that cling onto the past the most especially urie wants shirazu back so if he comes back this will be a test to see if this is what urie really wants. I think letting go of shirazu for real this time might be symbolic to the two of them moving on from the past. And look towards the future (hopefully their future).

Yuuuuup. They have such parallel arcs. Urie thinks everything would be okay if Shirazu was back. Mutsuki, if Kaneki was back, but Mutsuki’s accepted that and is moving on, and Urie’s like, well, I can protect my current family… but neither of them have yet had the realization that they need to ditch the CCG. Well, Mutsuki’s realized it, but there’s no way he will leave his family so he’ll stick with the CCG until they leave. They exploited Mutsuki, ate Urie’s dad, and we’re probably going to see quinque Shirazu, which is so ironic given Shirazu was how investigators wrestling with the morality of quinques was introduced to us… plus the Qs have always been living quinques. Urie really needs to realize how wrong this all is and ditch it.

Why and how do you think the thing with Mutsuki and Juuzou this chapter could lead up to mutsurie?

Mostly because it seemed to be setting Mutsuki up for development. Remember how Mutsuki seeking strength literally led to him spiraling? The end of his development can’t be “I was strong enough to save everyone!” as a result. The look on Juuzou’s face–a child should not have to save their parent, and Juuzou is kind of a father figure to Mutsuki, as Juuzou himself has acknowledged. No doubt he’s remembering himself and Shinohara vs. the Owl back at the end of part one.

Like, Mutsuki’s kagune is legit their ace card right now.

All to say, I’m seeing this as a scare flag for Mutsuki. No, he won’t die, that would make no narrative sense, but I can see harm coming to him soon, or at least his strength failing him, especially if quinque Shirazombie shows up as he’s almost certainly going to do. And, like, we all know the situation will have to be dire for Urie to open his mouth, sooooo. Yeah.

How you think do Saiko and Hairu parallel each other? Their hair colors, attitude, Hairu was sempai for Hsiao and now it is Saiko, what Arima for Hairu and what Kaneki for Saiko. What this parallels may mean?

I don’t think they really parallel each other tbh, at least not much. It’s hard to say with Saiko because again, no arc. She foils… Hide for sure, Kaneki, you could argue for Amon or Hinami too? But I don’t really see a strong foil between Hairu and Saiko, I’m sorry.

Their hair colors were both pastels, but that’s not really symbolic I don’t think, and they both acted cutesy I guess, but Hairu was really advanced for her age whereas Saiko is really immature for her age (like she’s the same age as Touka) so I suppose that’s a sharp contrast. And they’re both naturally gifted, which is what Hsiao admires about them, but Hsiao also has no arc so we can’t really say if there is supposed to be deeper meaning there.

I suppose like Hairu was constantly trying to earn Arima’s praise despite him withholding it, Saiko is desperate for love from her maman, Kaneki, who also abandoned her. But I honestly think their foiling ends there.

Mutsuki is actually the better parallel among the Qs for Hairu,
projecting his desires for love onto Kaneki, a father figure, while not
realizing Urie loves him because Urie can’t tell him. Hairu’s life was defined by her desperation to earn love, which she projected onto Arima (probably a brother of hers), while not realizing Ui loved her already because he never told her. Hinami and Karren are also strong parallels for Hairu.

Saiko’s love for Kaneki doesn’t have a romantic component that was present unquestionably in both Hairu’s and Mutsuki’s loves (though admittedly mixed up with other kind of mentor-love because neither Hairu nor Mutsuki have a healthy understanding of love), and I don’t think her love for Urie or Mutsuki does either. Saiko is able to express love in ways Hairu was not.
