2) You realize that like, all Eldians are descended from Ymir’s three daughters–Rose, Sina,
and Maria; is Grisha/Carla or basically any ship in this series incest? Distantly related, to the point where you can’t really consider yourselves related (like, this is a thing IRL too: Prince William & Kate Middleton are technically like 14th cousins because they have a common ancestor like, six hundred years ago). Frieda and Zeke clearly have at the very least a hundred of years of generations apart considering how long the Reisses have been on Paradis and the Fritzes in Marlay. It’s very likely not incest, and unless we have confirmation of just how close they are, no one has to think of it that way when it comes to a fictional crack ship between characters who never met and will never meet in canon.

I think Arima and Rize couldn’t be full siblings because both of Rize’s parents would have to be ghouls and one of Arima’s would have to be at least partially human? Unless there’s some other weird genetics stuff going on or how half-humans/half-ghouls are born hasn’t been fully explained yet. They could be more closely related than half siblings though if their mothers were related in some way.

Yeah, I honestly am no genetic expert so I can’t say! But given the amount of inbreeding I doubt it was so simple as one ghoul parent + one human parent. Like we know Tsuneyoshi was a ghoul, and Rize was a ghoul, but he still planned to breed with her so… how did that work exactly? It’s unclear to me.

Yep. According to this chart in 101, they’re half-siblings, sharing the same father–Washuu Tsuneyoshi–but different mothers.

Of note, it also looks like Rize and Arima might actually be full-blooded siblings according to that chart, but we can’t say for sure.

Basically, the fact that Furita fell in love with her exemplifies the tragedy of the Sunlit Garden and how the kids were not able to form healthy attachments, and like, say, Karren’s love for her cousin Shuu and Mutsuki’s love for his father figure in Haise, Furuta has a hard time forming a healthy understanding of love and family and mixes up certain lines as a result. Keep in mind that Rize was being raised to be a breeder for Tsuneyoshi–aka, she would have had sex with her father to breed more kids. Like, it’s legit possible Furuta’s mother is his sister also, which is all kinds of tragic and messed up.

That’s why this statement means jack shit to me.

In this family tree, Rize is clearly Tsuneyoshi’s daughter, and Furuta and Arima are his sons. (Rize and Arima might be siblings too according to this.)

And Furuta states outright that Tsuneyoshi would have raped Rize and used her to breed children, and his offspring (Yoshitoki, Matsuri) would have raped her too.

It’s disgusting, and I am glad Tsuneyoshi is dead and hope someone can save the rest of these kids. The Washuu and V are evil.
