Hi! Lovely metas on hxh you have here! (also kusari yarou OMG) That made me curious about how would you do a ranking of the hxh arcs in order of being your favourites? – if that’d not too much trouble, of course

Hello!! And thank you so much! It’s my favorite manga and anime so I’m happy you like my metas on it! (And my blog title lol it just had to be done.)

And it’s no trouble at all! I’m happy to talk anything HxH anytime. I actually posted a list recently here

I’m trying not to rank the current arc until it’s done, and didn’t include it in that list, but as it currently stands (and this is prone to change depending on how it goes) it would be probably right below Chimera Ant. The themes seem to be a continuation of the Chimera Ant Arc’s themes to an extent, the characters are all fascinating, and Tserriednich is a fantastic villain (and one of the few in HxH whom I can actually dislike lol, while also thinking he’s a great character). Bisky, the PT, Hisoka, Illumi, Kurapika–they all have cool roles, Morena is poised to be a fantastic female antagonist and I’m already highly attached to her, Kacho, Fugetsu, and Oito are all characters I adore already. The writing is really strong and the set up very complex, so I’m very hyped for this arc even with the hiatuses!

Something I love about Hunter X Hunter is that Gon’s determination is NOT portrayed as his best feature. It’s his flaw.

In most shonen, the protagonist never gives up and that’s how he wins (along with the power of friendship). It’s seen as admirable, something that viewers should strive for.

But in HxH, that refusal to give up is terrifying. Gon goes past his limits and hurts himself and others in the process. It gets to a point where you don’t want him to win anymore, if this is what winning means. You take one look at Gon, and you think, “He needs to stop. This isn’t healthy.” And even when he does win, it’s bittersweet. You aren’t left with the high of a power fantasy. You’re left with concern for this small child who is continually destroying himself, over and over.

One thing I am waiting for the most in hxh is spiders/kurapika/massacre resolution because I am not sure how to feel about some things regarding it. These are the questions that bug me: Do you think it is in character for Kurapika to forgive spiders? I mean not just letting go of grudge (bittersweat, cold relationship) but normal friendship. I would like to see their friendly interaction but then I am reminded of massacre.Would it be realistic if they had close friendship, not just with chrollo

I mean… I don’t expect that necessarily in canon, though I do think it’s quite likely they will have to become allies which couuuuld help Kurapika forgive them? I don’t think I really expect that in canon, though I do think he’ll absolutely let go of his grudge and like I said, quite possibly ally with Chrollo at some point, because Chrollo’s his shadow and to deal with his shadow Kurapika should reconcile/come to terms with it, not destroy it. There would have to kind of be the right circumstances imo for any kind of forgiveness (and by ‘right’ I mean ‘dire’ and also time).
