I said dabi didn’t appear in the internship arc before right? i meant that he didn’t interact with eri who was abused the same could be said with the league of villians too, though eri suffered under horrific torture from kai I find it odd they don’t sympathize with her situation another theory they haven’t met eri just heard from her from overhaul. i think its been established the begining the overhaul and the league of villians wouldn’t get along since kai is an abuser LOV abuse victims.

then again every time dabi meets someone its impactful like in the
internship arc near the end. he confronts snatch who snatch in turn asks
“do you ever think how their familys would feel?” which in turn later
come up when dabi thinks about it and what about shoto? the interaction
that kick started the dabi is a todoroki theory brief as they are they
have signifigance on dabis character shoto recognizes dabi on television
and dabi remembers snatchs words. these meets mean something

Ah, thank you for expounding! I agree that every time Dabi does something it’s impactful–if it isn’t, it shouldn’t be in the story, but Dabi’s arc is particularly tightly written imo.

That’s a great point about Eri. I’ve always seen her as a foil of Shigaraki, in that both of them are grandchild of an important person, somewhat unstable individuals who accidentally cause the deaths of their fathers and then are taken by men who exploit and abuse them for their quirks. But she can also be seen as a foil for Dabi (presuming Dabi is Todoroki Touya) in that she’s used by a paternal figure for her quirk.

That being said, Himiko refers to the desire to get a hold of her, though it clearly was not a priority:

Then again, who knows if they would have treated her the same way Overhaul did–it’s possible they’d have been more… AFO about it, in that it’s kind of parental but less overtly abusive (it’s still abusive). I think that kinda hints that the cycle of abuse is definitely at risk of repeating–Dabi is becoming more like Endeavor, for one thing. But the LOV is becoming more and more like a family in some ways, albeit a very very dysfunctional one.

I agree that they wouldn’t get along with Overhaul. Shigaraki seemed to enjoy making him suffer.

come to think dabi didn’t appear once during the internship arc except in the begening and when they ransacked the cars with overhaul in it he was absent throught out the internship arc something tells me this plays an important part

Ooh! Do you have a theory? I’d love to hear it! I wonder if he was biding his time, waiting for a chance to strike at Endeavor… but if you have a better idea I’d love to hear all theories for my flame boy!

What I feel: I love this character very much because they’ve helped me flex my creative muscle and extend my understanding of what makes a character enjoyable and unique, as well as giving me comfort during rough patches and allowing me to relate to them emotionally

What I say: hgngnhg son

could you please compare and contrast himiko and dabi i know there is a huge difference between them in characters and personality and states I know i alot of differences can you elaborate on it please?

Well, they’re introduced to the audience (properly) together.

Both of them seem kind of… out of sorts from the start. Dabi is rude outright; Himiko is overly familiar and bratty.  Both of them claim to have been inspired to join because of Stain, but I don’t think that’s very true for Himiko, and while I do think Dabi is clinging to Stain’s principles, there’s a lot more to it than that.

For Himiko, she’s a girl presumably without parents she lives with at least and who has kind of no place in the world and has no self-control in how she utilizes her quirk (she doesn’t have to kill people, but she has, presumably by accident because self-control is something Himiko lacks). Dabi also lacks self-control, as we’ll later see: he’s rude and says what he wants to, and he overuses his quirk quite likely to the point of injury.

Himiko is seeking a place to belong. Friends, really. She wants to become what she likes or loves, and doesn’t get that it’s through being with others than you belong, not through becoming someone else. Dabi, too, seems to be seeking some kind of belonging/care about it, as we later see him reminiscing about family.

But Dabi wants to join for the opposite reasons as Himiko: he wants to make Stain’s will a reality.

But his quest is likely fueled by a personal grudge as well, in that I believe he’s Todoroki Touya and Endeavor is his father, and in a sense presuming that’s true he’s lashing out at a father who told him he did not belong because his quirk was not good enough. I’ve spoken before about Himiko’s quirk and how that kind of quirk seems to invite ostracizing since to use it you have to hurt others, but yeah. Both of them seem to be people who have fallen through the cracks in hero society.

On a very surface level, both of them also have a… fixation on one heroic character and foil another character quite strongly. For Himiko, she obsesses over Deku and thereby foils Ochaco; Dabi clearly has a personal grudge against Endeavor and thereby foils Todoroki Shouto. (For Shigaraki, who also parallels them in this, it’s obsessing over All Might and thereby foiling Deku.)

For all the LOV, I think, they’re looking for a place to belong and for empathy. Like Twice, for example–and Himiko actually gives him this empathy. I’m interested to see how the League’s messed up growing unity will affect their development later on.

if what you said about hawks is true that the whole flys to fast must be referring to how he gets too close to the truth

cutiesableye:

It has something to do with something, and you could be right. A lot of evidence seems to stack up in your favor, just as a lot of evidence stack up with… well. The Funeral Train. To put it politely.

I don’t know what to think about the insinuations of the man who flies too fast, but I’m definitely more in your boat than the Funeral Train. The line between Villain and Hero has always been drawn seemingly apparent, and the introduction of Stain and Shigaraki’s tear it all down start over build a better world ideals begin to blur that line. The best way to keep blurring that line, to continue with this theme of What Makes A Hero, we need to see two things.

We need to see a hero become a villain.

And a villain become a hero.

great meta! do you think dabi heading towards the light in that hawks panel might signify a redemption for him?

cutiesableye:

Thanks !! 😀

I think Dabi walking towards the light might have a two-fold meaning, actually. The common belief that it’s a hint toward his redemption/atonement/healing is super apparent. I mean, literally heading into the light is such a clean, clear-cut way to symbolize redemption. And I fucking love redemption stories.

But also … (and this is not supported, this comes from my own feelings and my own experiences as an abused kid)

I hope it symbolizes exposure. I hope it means that Dabi is Touya and in Touya stepping back into the light, everything that Endeavor has done comes to light. Now we know that Dabi’s actually a pretty private person. All the Todorokis seem to be this way. Honestly if he truly wanted to ruin his father, he shouldn’t have thrown up his ring of fire. Let the media overhear whatever he was intending to say in that orchestrated chat with dear old dad. But he didn’t. Because he’s a pretty private person. He’s not the type to openly air out that dirty laundry.

But it’s going to happen. Somehow. I have a feeling that Touya’s grand reveal is going to unintentionally be seen by many many people and it will be a biiiiig scandal.
