Let’s say in a parallel universe of hxh Gon Killua, Kurapika and Leorio live in meteor city or for some reason are close with troupe (spider protagonists au, etc), what their relationship will be withs specific members?

It’s really impossible to say because both Kurapika and Leorio are very shaped by their pasts! Like, Leorio is the kind of person who takes trauma and brings something positive from it (being a doctor to cope with the loss of his childhood friend) but if he had even less opportunities like he presumably might have in Meteor City, would he respond the same way? If Leorio had more of an arc it’d be easier to answer, but alas.

I do think that in another universe, though, Kurapika and Chrollo would get along fairly well, because they’re so similar with their fatalism and paradoxical deep love for others and fear of letting others get too close.

Do you have character analysis or any headcanons for phinks and feitan?

I think Feitan and Phinks are not immediately at risk of dying? Lol. That could be just my denial though, but they have decent development among the PT members.

Feitan is a character I think in particular is built up for some kind of development, given that he is used to show the strength of the Troupe to Kalluto. He’s my favorite troupe member after Illumi, Chrollo, Kalluto, and Machi. His perspective is seemingly very along the lines of loyalty to an ideology no matter the cost, as is shown in how he wants to fight Kurapika at the risk of Chrollo’s death in Yorknew.

Phinks is similar to Feitan, but Phinks is more obviously emotional whereas Feitan is calculating, and therefore they balance each other out well kind of in the same way Leorio and Kurapika do where one is analytical and the other is more hot-headed. But he is also, like Feitan, more loyal to an ideology than a person when it comes to the Spiders. Like he won’t even help Feitan during his fight with Zazan because rules.

Both Phinks and Feitan, though, do show some kind of sadness after Paku’s death, Phinks especially. So they’re not like care-less monsters; on the contrary, I do think they care deeply about the Troupe members, but they care specifically because they’re members of the Troupe, because they care about the Troupe and its purpose. That’s why they came into conflict with Nobunaga and Machi during the Yorknew debate, since they seem to care more about the individuals in the Troupe.

Anyways. I hope they both get a bit more development before/if they die, especially if this whole ideology vs people issue is revisited.

What are your thoughts on Cheadle?

I think she’s a great character and I’m very interested to see where her character goes once they get to the Dark Continent. I’m intrigued to see her relationships with Leorio, Pariston, and Ging play out, because I think all of those characters were tied together in the election arc. She’s practical while also balancing that with with empathetic understanding of where people are coming from even when they infuriate her, which I hope means she will be a mentor of sorts for Leorio. He was not mature enough to be chairman during the Election Arc, but Cheadle does observe he has that potential, and I’d like to see her encourage Leorio to grow.

Hey I am the same anon! The childhood part might be an anime thing only. It was him running happily with something in his hands. Try to type Chrollo Childhood in google! You will get the image.

Ahhh I see! Thank you!

I think the image is him playing with the troupe members around the dump of Meteor City, though–but with friends 😦 So it suggests a child without a home, at least to me (though that’s a bit of a headcanon).

But the friends things is important I think because I’m pretty sure this arc will ask Chrollo to make the choice Paku made–choose your loved ones or your ideology. Chrollo deeply loves his friends and this shows that that has always been a part of his character.

What do you think happened in Kuroro’s childhood to make him the person he is? As we were shown, he went from that kid playing happily to the young man who is the leader and founder of Geneiryodan

Ooh. To start with, I don’t recall ever seeing him playing happily–can you cite a chapter? I’ve been looking and I can’t recall that. The only flashback I remember of him is when he’s starting the troupe.

My personal guess is that his childhood doesn’t matter a whole lot beyond where he comes from. Chrollo comes from Meteor City and it’s noted the Phantom Troupe still feels loyalty to that place, which is a city where people are thrown away. Many don’t even think the city exists, and many from there don’t even know their birthdates. This sense of floating between the realm of myth and reality is a central point of Chrollo’s character (think his musings on religion and philosophy).

I think Chrollo was and is desperately seeking acknowledgement he exists and that there is a plan, that destiny is written, despite being society’s rubbish (hence his obsession with fortunes etc). He wants a purpose, in other words, and for him the Spider is his identity and purpose. He entirely defines himself through the group (gee, Kurapika, maybe stop identifying yourself solely through your roots as well), which is why I think it’s fitting his flashbacks begin with its founding, and why I’m not sure we’ll see more than that. If we did I think it would come at a breaking moment for his character. :’’)

Before that, I can imagine he was a lost kid looking for someone to tell him it was okay to live, because it seems to be that his life and his actions are a way of answering this, of proving it to himself. But as for specifics I’m not sure–I have headcanons, certainly, but textually nothing.

For more on Chrollo’s character, I highly recommend this video by Aleczandxr on YouTube. It’s long but an excellent analysis.
