I haven’t seen it, and I don’t plan to. I highly recommend the video made from Mother’s Basement on YouTube about it, because it was a very nuanced take on the show, acknowledging why people like it while also pointing out how inexcusably egregious their treatment of sexual assault was.
From what I do know about That Scene, I’m honestly disgusted. I know there’s a lot to like in that show too, so kudos to you if you like it and I don’t fault anyone for liking it so please don’t argue with me that it’s really a good show (it very well might be in lots of ways, but I wouldn’t be able to get past that), but there is absolutely no excuse, no excuse whatsoever, for using sexual abuse to titillate their audience this day in age. Or ever, but especially nowadays. It infuriates me. There’s one thing to like, handle it poorly, like say Game of Thrones (too casual, focuses on men who have women they care about assaulted), Tokyo Ghoul (never really empathized with, makes the victim lose their mind), or My Hero Academia (plays off harassment for laughs). And it’s another thing completely to use a graphic rape scene to turn your audience on. That’s just gross, and honestly, it’s offensive.
For shows that handle that kind of issue responsibly, as the horror it is while giving the victims a voice and space to sort through their feelings even if said feelings aren’t those a good victim would have, I’d recommend Banana Fish or Revolutionary Girl Utena. Both of which have been around since the 80s or 90s so. Really Goblin Slayer. Really. (From my understanding the light novel does not at all have this problem, so it’s entirely on the anime, which again. Really.)
